Rod Hardy’s “Thirst” from circa 1978 is the best one. Only Lovers Left Alive very very tangentially relates to it and is therefore automatically great, plus it features Mia Wasikowska who is the lead in Stoker which is in a weirdly subtle a sort of vampire film.
But a really fun one is Shadow of the Vampire starring Willem Dafoe as Max Shrek, the actor who played Orlok in Murnau’s “Nosferatu”; the fictionalised film plays on and exaggerates the rumour that Shrek was a real vampire and that’s why Murnau cast him. Cleverly silly fun.
I liked Sinners but all these plus some others like Almereyda’s Nadja, are better vampire films. Sinners is more a music film (and in that respect, better than the output of Damien Chazelle)
