Not-for-profit charity, Climbers Against Cancer (CAC) are due to make a £25,000 donation to The Christie Hospital in Manchester, which will bring their grand total for the year up to an impressive £100,000. The generous donation is set to be their 4th offering of the same value this year, with the other three being presented to research facilities worldwide.

Climbers Against Cancer raise vital funds for cancer research through the worldwide climbing community. All money raised is through sales of their brightly coloured clothing, as well as fundraising events and sponsorships, the profits of which are donated to various cancer research facilities around the globe.

The Christie Hospital, an NHS foundation trust, is the single largest cancer centre in Europe. They are an international leader in cancer research and development, treating more than 44,000 patients each year. Notably, The Christie has pioneered many developments in cancer research, including the world's first clinical trial of breast cancer drugs, Stilboestrol and Tamoxifen. They were also the first facility globally to use cultured bone marrow to treat leukaemia, as well as the world's first single harvest blood cell transplant.

The cheque will be presented at this years' Kendal Mountain Festival, which takes place from the 15th - 18th November in Kendal, Cumbria. On hand to present the cheque will be inspirational 8-year old, Edward Mills, who back in June broke records to become the youngest ever person to climb the Old Man of Hoy, along with his coaches Ben West and Cailean Harker. Edward's incredible heroics raised over £30,000 on behalf of CAC, all of which was done as a tribute to his mother, Bekki, who was diagnosed with breast cancer and has since sadly passed away.

Susan Grimshaw, Trustee of Climbers Against Cancer commented: "It's fantastic to be able to support The Christie Hospital and top off what has been a great year for donations. The work they do is nothing short of astounding and they really do need all of the help and funds they can get to carry on providing an incredible service to so many people suffering from cancer. We sincerely hope that the money goes a long way to helping the patients and the incredible staff who work there."

I'd like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who donated, as well as the team at CAC who worked to raise such an impressive amount of money."

Climbers Against Cancer will also be using the opportunity at Kendal Mountain Festival to launch their brand new range of organic t-shirts in collaboration eco climbing clothing brand, 3rd Rock. As is the case with all clothing from CAC, all profits will be donated to causes around the world similar to The Christie Hospital. Keep an eye on their online store for the new designs in November!

Another CAC donation for the same amount will take place on the other side of the world at the Australian National Bouldering Championships at Adrenaline Vault in Belmont, WA. On this occasion, the cheque for £25,000 will be presented to the Cancer Council of Australia by CAC Ambassador, Caitlan Horan.
