Nuts of Legends Update - The Climbers Shop 60th Anniversary Press Release

Climbers have been flocking to Lake District trad routes this spring to join in our 60th anniversary Nuts Of Legends treasure hunt! Over 25 lucky climbers have found our limited edition DMM Torque nuts which have been placed at the top or bottom of 60 classic Lakeland climbs spanning the life of rock climbing as a sport since it began with the widely accepted first ascent of Napes Needle in 1886.

We have received photo's and a stream of lovely messages from happy nut finders from riverside crags, roadside crags to some of the farthest flung mountain crags imaginable but there are still more to find!

If you are lucky enough to have found a nut then don't forget to upload an image of you and your nut and where you found it to our UK Climbing competition gallery to be in with a chance of winning a simply unbelievable prize: a framed print of Scafell Crag by one of the UK's most celebrated landscape artists W Heaton-Cooper. A keen climber himself his original sketch appeared in the original 1936 FRCC Scafell guide book. This particular print, however, is a priceless piece of mountaineering history as it has been signed by some of the UK's greatest climbers and Lake District legends including: Sir Chris Bonington, Doug Scott CBE, Joe Brown MBE, Julian Heaton-Cooper (nephew of original artist and climber) Emma Twyford, James McHaffie and more……

This is the Lake Districts biggest ever climbing treasure hunt and a fantastic way to experience some of the greatest traditional climbs the region has to offer with grades for everyone to enjoy. The full list of climbs is available here and don't forget to read how we came up with the routes – it wasn't easy as there are so many classics! So, go on, get yourself to the Lakes, enjoy some of the worlds finest rock climbs hop on to our social media for clues on which nuts have been placed and join in the fun!
