Café and Retail Manager at Blochaus Climbing, Manchester

We are looking for someone to take the lead on café and retail management/development, as well as be a being part of the day to day running of the climbing centre.

Blochaus Climbing in Manchester, is an independent bouldering wall, striving to provide a welcoming environment to all those who walk through our door, be they first time climbers or seasoned pros. We pride ourselves on our quality setting in an enjoyable environment with excellent customer service and we are always pushing to do better.

Café and Retail Manager

Your main responsibility will be to oversee both the café and shop here at Blochaus. An interest in good coffee and food is essential! You will oversee everything café and shop related. Working with the director to decide what products we stock, keeping control of quality & stock levels and serving delicious food and drink to our customers. Our café and shop are both areas where we have scope for development, so the ideal candidate will have a lot of ideas as to how to expand and improve this side of the business.

Duty Manager

Alongside your café and retail responsibilities, you will also be required to oversee the safe and efficient day-to-day running of the centre. You will be a focal point for customers and staff on matters relating to the normal operation of the centre, ensuring that regular jobs are performed in accordance with expected quality standards and supporting other staff with advice and assistance as required.

As we are a small team, we are all required to pitch in and help with the 'fun' jobs as well as the 'not so fun' jobs, so you will need to be a team player who enjoys variety to their workday and doesn't mind some graft from time to time!

Main Responsibilities

  • Maintaining stock levels and ordering from various suppliers
  • Doing stocktakes and creating reports
  • Training staff on café and shop best practices
  • Developing both the café and shop to improve quality and performance
  • Café and shop service
  • Tracking spending and budgets
  • Managing a team of receptionists and instructors (as Duty Manager)

Requirements

  • Experience working within a climbing centre, gym, café or similar business in a supervisory role
  • Excellent customer facing skills and the ability to work well with others
  • An interest in the climbing industry and climbing gear
  • An interest in food and drink
  • The ability a work daytime, evenings and weekends on a varied shift pattern
  • Good management and communication skills
  • Ability to cope in a fast-paced environment

Basic Info

  • Pay from £12 per hour depending on the successful candidate's ability, qualifications, and experience
  • We are ideally looking for a full time staff member (37.5hrs/week) 
  • 28 days holiday per year
  • Closing date: 26th July 2023
