Reel Rock Valley Uprising Showing in Manchester

Manchester Climbing Centre is showing Reel Rock’s Valley Uprising on Tuesday the 11th of November at 7pm.

The Reel Rock Film Tour has been on the go since 2006. This year the film tour's main feature film is the documentary 'Valley Uprising'. Covering 50 years of climbing in Yosemite.

In the late 1950s a group of bearded youngsters set out for the Sierra Nevada mountains hell-bent on breaking the stifling post-war conformity in their own daring way. At the forefront of this ragged band of adventurers were two great rivals seeking to be the climbing king of Yosemite: Royal Robbins, who likened his climbs to Beethoven symphonies; and Warren Harding, a wise-cracking, hard-drinking showboat.

When Robbins made the historic first ascent of Half Dome, Harding quickly responded with his audacious, 30-day journey up the Nose of El Capitan. These were the first shots fired in a dangerous game of one-upmanship that pushed the limits of the vertical realm farther than anyone thought possible.

In the decades that have followed, brash young adventurers have flocked to the high, lonesome granite walls, and laid their lives on the line for ever harder and bolder ascents.

VALLEY UPRISING tells the amazing story of the bold men and women who broke with convention and redefined the limits of human possibility.  The 3 generations of climbers - The Golden AgeThe Stone Masters and The Stone Monkeys - that comprise the revolution of rock climbing in Yosemite feature in the film.

Doors open at 6.30pm with the film starting at 7pm in the Base Camp Conference Room. The film will finish at approx 9.30pm.

Tickets are £10.00 per person, including free popcorn!
