Rockfax Description
The crack on the right is too wide for comfort although the upper section, behind the ledge, is easier. Another grovel that adds to Curbar's reputation. Huge cams lower the grip-factor considerably. © Rockfax

Cracking off-width selection. Got halfway then howling winds and rain near the top- grateful for boulder at the top used for shelter while belaying

Worked better as an off-width than a dangerous bridging route! Cathartic!

Really quite fun. Shame about the vegetation at the top.

First trad fall. Tried to bridge the off-width. Feet about 1m above gear, tried to hop one foot up, after a couple of slips trying to stick it on, that popped the other foot. Down I went, caught something with left leg - crack or rope? - that twisted and popped knee, sending me upside down, finishing upside down with my back on Nick's back, crouched down as he was - fine belaying. Pros - gear held, not run out enough to deck, able to limp to car Cons- should have put gear in from first good bridge above gear rather than flailing and failing on next move, Reflections: 4b doesn't mean it's easy. You are still inexperienced, especially when it comes to the wider range of skills for grit. Bold climbing is not a sustainable way to learn skills - it's scary for a reason. Running it out without confidence in moves or sight of next rest = unacceptable risk. THERE IS NO ROOM FOR 'FUCK IT' IN CLIMBING

Easy if you know how to climb a off width, hard if you do not.

Had to rest on gear after struggling to place it in the offwidth section of the crack. Then backed off to the ledge and did it as a layback instead.

horrible thrutch through the wide crack - Big cam would have been nice. Nice and easier upper section

This was just too much thrutching for me where the crack widens. Passed the lead to Ron.

Ron lead on my gear and somehow wormed up the top part of the crack. Hard work.

This is a solid VS, a real thrutch in the lower crack.
