250m, 8 pitches.

Rockfax Description
240m. The route starts at the toe of a small buttress with a nice warm-up pitch, well equipped with ring bolts. It is one of the best routes in this area and the final pitch is outstanding. It is gaining in popularity but is still often quiet outside July and August.
Approach - From Planpraz, follow signs for 'Lac Cornu' and pass under Hotel California. Continue for 100m then turn left and Scramble up the grassy slopes below the route. There are lots of cairns and the odd section of vague path but otherwise it is a somewhat awkward uphill grind to the start of the climbing.
1) 4b, 30m. Climb the slabby corner and the rib above to reach a grassy ledge. Cross this and climb another 5m buttress before stepping right to a peg and bolt belay.
2) 5c, 30m. Follow the arête above the belay, staying just to the right of the crest, on positive holds to a steep pull through a vertical wall on thin holds. This leads to a slab, which is followed rightwards to a belay on a thin ledge.
3) 5b, 40m. Go up and right 5m from the belay and climb the excellent wall above. Move left at the top and follow the rib for 5m to a long ledge with the belay at the right-hand end.
4) 6a, 25m. The slab above the belay leads to a fantastic pillar, which is climbed on its crest, or just to the right, and leads to a grassy ledge. The belay is 4m to the left.
5) 5a, 25m. Cross the gully behind the belay and climb the rib above for 12m. When this ends, step across another gully to the left and climb the steep 4m wall on the far side of it onto slabs above. These lead easily to the belay.
Make a slightly awkward 14m abseil from here down to boulders and then walk/scramble north for 100m, hugging the steep walls on the left, to the next pitch which starts at a series of steep cracks in a grey wall.
6) 5c, 30m. Climb the cracks either on the left (5c) or the right (6a) - neither is a pushover - to easier slabs above and follow these to an uncomfortable hanging belay.
7) 5a, 20m. Carry on up the slab in much the same vein, then follow the crest of the ridge above. When this ends, step off left, walk across and come back right to an exposed ledge with a belay at the far right end.
8) 6a, 40m. THE Pitch! Climb the arête above the belay until, after four bolts, it leads you rightwards through a little steepening and onto the southwest ridge of the Clocher de Planpraz. Follow this in a fantastic position to the summit.
Descent - Walk down to Planpraz on the Clocher-Clochetons approach path. © Rockfax

UKC Logbook Description
Great views of the Mont Blanc Massif in a wild and remote setting.

Take the Brevent telepherique to the middle station of PlanPraz. Take the path to lac Cornu (15mins) then take the first combe on the left. Total approach 30mins. High above to the right you should see a tower which is the summit.

Last pitch is either 6a+ or 5b - I would recommend the 6a+ - great feeling of exposure.

Make sure you dont miss the last telecabin down - its a long walk !

Petarghh 22 Jul AltLd O/S Fun route, well bolted. But be aware Wrong-fax states it's equipped with ring bolts when in fact it's petzl hangers. We took ring bolts as glue in style and so lead to a little confusion at the base of the climb. Get there early to avoid being stuck behind faffers.

EGriffin 25 Jun AltLd O/S Phenomenal day! THE final pitch is absolutely incredible! Accidentally missed the first 4c pitch (as did everyone else that day). Pitches led by: 2 (5c) - Ed, 3 (5b) - Deema, 4 (6a) - Ed, 5 (5a) - Ed then fun ab off block, lunch in the shade, then little scramble past 3b pitch, 6 (5c) - Deema (this is where it starts getting harder), 7 (5a) - Ed, 8 (6a) - Deema. Only had 50m rope but was lucky enough use another group's rope for the final ab. WHAT A DAY!

wheelsucker 7 Aug, 2018 AltLd O/S Slightly different route to that described in the Rockfax guide. Pitch 1 felt like 5a and led to a two bolt belay. Pitch 2 5c as described. Pitch 3 5b but led in 30m to a bolt and peg belay at the left end of a ledge not right as described. We thought this was the wrong belay as the 6a pitch was meant to head straight up a slab from the belay. I continued up an easy rib for 10 - 15 meters looking for the correct belay but ended up below this slab with no bolted belay. There is an excellent rock spike for a bomber anchor though. The supposed 6a pitch which felt more like 5b/c led up to a pinnacle in 25m. The 14m abseil described in the guide is from this pinnacle. A walk/scramble then leads to the foot of a steep wall with two options both around 6a. The next pitch is easy 5a but with great positions pulling around an arete to drop down to the foot of the last pitch. This pitch is 6a/6a+ and is the best pitch on the route by far. This is a great route but with a confusing Rockfax description which only added to the adventure.

Wanted to continue onto the Traverse, but Beata couldn't find the hidden belay to continue, which was a blessing as it started chucking it down and we had to make a quick exit.

petecallaghan 30 Jul, 2017 AltLd dnf We did this as two teams (Ray and me, Rich and Ellie). We were a bit slow up the lifts and by the time we got there we had 6 people immediately ahead of us. They were sloooow. We were serenaded by the folk music of CosmoJazz echoing up from the mid station. At the bottom of P6 a cumulus launched up above the valley, we heard thunder and decided to bail. While considering escape options, the rain moved away so we continued up P6 and P7. Rich sensibly bailed at this point, while Ellie, Ray and I considered P8. However the conditions looked bad again so we decided again to bail, at which point the storm launched all around us. Heavy rain then hail then lightning and thunder. We ran ran ran ran down the hill (I managed to slip when counting seconds between bolt and thunder). Utterly soaked when we joined the CosmoJazz crowds waiting for the lifts to resume.

onlyfoddington 31 Jul, 2013 Lead O/S I think this may have been some of the best leading - especially on the second half. I did two pitches of 5c and two of 6a ( all bolted) with a sizeable rucksack. Really pleased I had the balls to go left of the arête at the end for a memorable finish.
