28m. A great outing through some impressive territory. Climb the flake-crack up the left-hand side of the huge flake of The Pedestal. To stop the rope jamming, try fixing a runner out left to direct it away from the crack, then pull over the bulge and finish up the deep groove.

abi.k.l 23 Oct, 2016 2nd dog The suggested start in the guidebook is up a tricky face which a large consensus of people at the crag suggested was easily more like VS than S. A reachy start allows you to gain a finger crack for your left hand (I came off twice trying for this), from which some feet shuffling upwards allows you to pop for a good ledge out to your right. A layback move lets you gain the ledge. Starting a metre or two further right from the guidebook line looks more in the HVD/ S grade. The next tricky section (my partner who has historically led E3 found it thoughtful) was gaining the top of the pedestal from the left-hand approach. From a good ledge, there is a slopey face which requires careful positioning of the feet whilst using poor jams to your right in the flake crack. At 5'7", this was the best way I could find to do a sketchy laybacking move to gain the pedestal. David at 6' made use of a pocket for his left foot and a higher ledge on the pedestal to avoid the sketchy layback. Climbing down back off the pedestal (belay stance) to gain the traverse wasn't graceful, and the traverse itself was thoughtful, before a thuggish ('traditional') finish up the green corner.
