Rockfax Description
An excellent and airy route up the left arete of Cenotaph Corner. Start as for Spiral Stairs below the arete. Climb up to a ledge at about 3m and follow the thin crack up and left to reach a perch on the arete. Move back right onto the wall and climb just right of the arete until you reach a large pocket, gear. Now head back up and left to reach another ledge high on the arete. A bold and exciting section of the climb. Take the arete more-or-less directly to the Left Wall belay - take care with the rock. © Rockfax

Managed to get fairly freaked out on this. Spent 2 and a half hours on it! The longest time I've ever spent on a single pitch. Good route not sure why it freaked me out. could of made better use of the spike runners.

Run out and with some flexy gear. Basically trusted one out of every three pieces I placed. Might have been fine, but might have ripped it all! Despite this, great route and worth doing if comfy at E3.

Ace route felt awesome cruising up positive crimps on a bold wall. Some girl having a melt down on cemetery gets was a good test of keeping my head together on the top arête . Had to down climb from the beginning of the crux as when I tried to go for it the sun was square in my face so reversed to the ledge for a rest and the sun to go round.

Really steady climbing on great edges through the crux. Gear a bit spicy though, not sure if my trad head is ready for it yet, even though my arms are!

Gear closer to you for the crux than on Right Wall, but after that it's fairly spaced and what I got in didn't seem too brilliant. Quite an exposed feeling in gusty conditions on the upper section with not much gear

Very hard earned and spaced protection. Never really felt happy pulling the hard moves above the gear but part of it was probably due to being out of practice - at least I could still hang around and figure it out! Was quite gusty which made it feel even more precarious above gear. Good climbing on small sharp holds, rock quality is a bit dubious up higher.

Harder but safer than I thought it would be. Couple of stiff pulls to the forest ledge. Thought it was going to be really run out after that but there was gear out on the face, not exactly bomber but good enough and no need for side runners in LW. Quite a few 5b and 5c moves but between good handholds so you can hang around. A bit stiff for a warm up though. The arête after the top ledge proved harder than expected - there are some more 5b moves lurking up there, protected by a couple of so-so cams and good gear on the ledge. A mini classic. Rach seconded fine for her second ever E3.

A good vibe at the crag with lots of friendly people getting on some hard routes and really going for it. Haven't felt this steady on an E3 before. Felt pretty cruisy most of the way. Had a bit of a wobble on the easy bit at the top as I let my guard down and mis-read the sequence, although I sorted it out easily enough. Ignore the negative comments on here: there's plenty of bomber gear and the upper arete isn't that bad (I found one loose hold and the rest wobble slightly but are solid). I didn't feel the need for any runners in left wall as some guides suggest. Enjoyed it as much as Left Wall :)

Nice. Wasn't particularly psyched so got on this and felt pretty steady on it. Was spitting rain as I started which although off-putting it felt good to push on. Big moves in the middle section way above gear. I didn't bother trying to fiddle crappy gear in. Upper arete isn't too bad but again reachy and not much gear on it (I actually forgot to put gear in but it's pretty steady. Good to be able to feel pretty steady on top-end E3 when lacking in motivation.

Awesome stuff. I've wanted to lead this since I did Cenotaph Corner in 2004. I remember seeing someone leading it and hearing them shout down to their belayer "That's the scariest thing I've ever done!". It felt pretty steady and the gear felt good enough that I didn't need to resort to side runners in Left Wall as is suggested in some guidebooks.

how good! i thought this was superb: the lower wall is just perfect and the arete is superbly positioned. if youre fit / can recover then its steady too: the climbing is very positive and youre never more than 1 move away from good gear or good holds. the arete feels a bit more serious with thoughts of the ledge but you still have good gear and the climbing remains very positive. totally recommended!
