JonesE 15 May Lead O/S Led all pitches. Very good overall. First pitch had to force myself to stick to the rocky bits. Next 2 pitches are where its at though - superb! Some loose/rattly stuff but this just adds to the experience. Take plenty of slings.

MattL80 19 Jul, 2018 AltLd Led p2, quite exciting with the lack of gear. Concentrated so hard on not falling that I overshot the belay stance and came to within a metre of the end of the rope before finding an alternative (last 20 or so metres with no gear). P3 we went too far right and missed the better climbing, but still a good adventure. P1 and P4 onwards just a scramble.

Kevin_Daniel_Garvey 9 Jun, 2018 Lead O/S We did this in perfect conditions as the last section of a 'chain' - Idwal Slabs; Holly Tree Wall; Continuation Wall; Central Arete. Took us about 7 hours with a stop for lunch. You have to traverse across the mountainside from CW to the base of Central Arete, over the top of the large scree gully - but it's comfortable enough if you're confident in the mountains. I think this climb is worthy of 3 stars. Exposed, ridge like climbing - but so, so easy. Felt more like a Diff - if it wasn't for the lack of gear options. My advice is a few 60cm slings and a few 120cm ones too for the flakes and the gendarmes. Once you get a couple of those in you'll be doing great and can enjoy the exposed feeling with amazing views! We also didn't pitch the first 20m (scrambled it fine, or you could rope together) and same with the last 30m or so out to the top of the ridge (we finished at the large, iconic gendarmes for a few hero photos). It's a long walk down Devil's Kitchen.

Cornish boy 8 Oct, 2016 AltLd We both thought P2 was extremely tough for a V Diff. The line isn't obvious. Add to this a lack of decent gear placements plus poor holds at times. The greasy rock didn't help either! The holds become much more positive above this, with some fantastic, exposed climbing on the pinnacles, spikes and gendarmes on the arête. Superb views down to Idwal as the weather improved. Watch out for loose rock on the upper section!

CurlyStevo ?Jul, 2013 AltLd Soloed pitch 1, seconded pitch 2 moved together on pitch 3. Pitch one was rubbish, pitch 2 was around grade 3 scrambling technically quite samey and sustained, quite run out(hence Vdiff), fairly loose, but the improbable nature and position of it make it worth a star. Pitch 3 was one of the best 100 metres of grade 2 scrambling I've done anywhere! I think the north wales rock (groundup) description of pitch 2 is confusing. It would be better described more similarly to the definitive guide as basically climb on the right hand side of the arete, moving on to the slab where the rock is clean and the climbing easier (than the arete). Just worth 2 stars overall IMO. Part of a larger enchainment of tennis shoe, Javelin Buttress, Groove Above and Central Arete.

Andrew Barker 14 Jul, 2011 Lead O/S A great route. First pitch is a scrappy scramble but second pitch is brilliant and the third has an alpine feel due to all the pinnacles. I thought it was pretty serious for VDiff as the rock is pretty suspect and the gear is far from straightforward. However no mention of this is made in the book. The route also effectively ends after three pitches (around 115m) as the last part is also scrappy scrambling.

Gerry_Doncaster 4 May, 2011 2nd The second pitch was the highlight. A lot steeper than it looks and surprisingly small holds for a VDiff. Quite exhilarating and intimidating at the same time. Lots of exposure and the belay ledge above is very small, about 2 metres by 45cm. Above the second pitch the route is very scrappy. Lots of grassy bits and loose stuff as well as one exceptionally exposed move round the outside of a large flake. Can't really see why this one is rated as a classic, apart from a good second pitch the rest of the route is distinctly mediocre.

monkey1 23 May, 2009 Lead O/S Great route, done in 2 hours. Exhilarating for the grade and fairly commiting. The gear is there on pitch 2 but look carefully for it- If you don't use the few good placements you'll be run out for 25m plus! Good stances and great views and atmosphere

snakes77 23 May, 2009 2nd cracking climb this, well easier to 2nd than lead, 1st pitch was more or less a scramble, 2nd pitch needed alot my thought but again nothing to taxing, we didn't run all the way to the ledge on the 2nd we went about 15m sorter. 3rd was up to the real p2 ledge. The rest of the pitches were good climbing nice exposure which gets the heart pumping, steady walk to the peak and what a day to do it clear blue skies with views of all the valley

Ann S 19 Apr, 2009 Lead O/S Graded VD but needs steady leader and second. Main slab pitch (look for the scratched CA and arrow) is 34 metre runout with spaced gear and small belay. Next 2 pitches are thru increasingly loose rock. However it's a good mountaineering route, but don't do it if there's anyone else above you.Helmets are well recommended.

flat eric 17 Oct, 2008 AltLd O/S Unfortuantly I lead the 2nd pitch which was polished, slippy and almost totally lacking gear. Required some gardening. However, pitches 3 and 4 completely made up for this. It seemed hard for V Diff.

davefount 4 May, 2008 Lead O/S In heavy rain. This made the crux slab section difficult (there is virtually no worthwhile gear). Upper ridge section fun as ever but some surprising large loose flakes about. Serious.
