101m, 4 pitches.

Rockfax Description
A fun outing that lies close to the A5 and catches sun for much of the day. The first pitch has lovely rock and the final traverse negotiates some interesting gendarmes not unlike an alpine ridge. Start at the base of the ridge close to the letters PR scratched in the rock.
1) 40m. Follow the right-hand of the two ribs on wonderful clean rock to a steep blocky section that leads to a heathery terrace.
2) 15m. Follow easier ground to a good spike belay on a ledge.
3) 22m. Traverse right and climb the ridge to another ledge.
4) 20m. Follow the crested ridge to gain easy ground. © Rockfax

UKC Logbook Description
A four pitch climb with easy access from the road and fun and interesting moves. 1) 30m. Start on a slabby rib which has PR scratched onto it, about 50m? up from the road. Delicate start on small holds. Some tricky moves if in boots. Awkward move into a groove formed on the side of a large block to a possible belay (good, we used it). Or continue more or less straight up and belay on a ledge with spike belays. (This might be the same thing - guidebook is a little confusing)
2) 22m. Continue up a groove for 10m to a heather terrace. Scramble up to reach a sloping heathery ledge with spike belay.
3) 23m. Traverse up and right over heather and rock to just below the continuing ridgeline. (Possible belay if rope drag is a problem.) Good holds lead up to the ridge and a ledge with spike belay.
4) 23m. Climb up to a small ledge below the first pinnacle. (The grade 2 scramble enters from the right about here.) Climb the 3m wall using big flaky holds to end up at the base of the first pinnacle. Climb up and over the pinnacles. (Getting down the first pinnacle's other side is tricky for the short. Can avoid it easily, but it is fun!) After the second big slender pinnacle, climb up a rocky step to a heathery grassy shoulder.

Looked for the loose block previously mentioned on pitch 2. Could not see it presume someone has removed it. Good 1st pitch, great atmospheric 4th pitch!

jessieleong 7 Jul AltLd O/S We walked up as recommended by the North Wales ground up guide from the road - and found it hard to find the start, couldn’t see the scratched letters. First pitch tops out onto spiky bushes, but some sustained moves more like 4a. P2/3 was hard to distinguish and not entirely sure I did it the correct way, p4 Diane led but skipped round as didn’t fancy the big spikes climb up and down. Bit contrived

dan_waterston 29 Aug, 2018 AltLd O/S Rockfax topo is wrong & confusing. Correct start further to left in picture, with ‘PR’ marked at start. Description seems ok though. Second pitch (as describe)d is shit- just a walk through gorse. Pinnacles great fun & very alpine. Probably easier for leader than second, as crux is climbing down from the things, although it is possible to bypass.

skinne 4 Sep, 2017 AltLd O/S An enjoyable, if gorsey outing when it was too wet to climb on Carnedd y Filiast, our intended target. Quite reachy on the first pitch (I'm tall), and seems a shame to hike up past all of the other buttresses to get to this; if I'd had a definitive guide (or internet access) we would have likely linked up something from below. Decent exposure in places, and quite spicy if you go right over the tops of the pinnacles. Great views, especially into Cwm Idwal.

AndyPagett 23 Jul, 2017 AltLd O/S Interesting. Had some debate with another team about where this actually starts / where it goes. What we did was nowt like what is described / shown in the picture in the RockFax guide, but more like what is in the 1993 Ogwen and Carneddau guide. We did: P1 - start at the right hand of the two ribs which are *left* of the rocky spur leading down to the road - the one with PR scratched on to the rock. Up a small slab, on to a fridge sized block, pull into a blocky groove on the right and carry on upwards. About 40m, felt like HVD/S 4a. P2 - bushwhack through gorse to a spike below a wall. Ungradeable. P3 - traverse right along a narrow gorsey ledge to the base of a short wall, ascent short wall and belay on small stance above. About G2 scramble. P4 - head upwards to pick up a blocky / juggy route up to the base of the first pinnacle, traverse the pinnacles, deal with rope drag nightmare - about VD. In hindsight and looking at our photos I think we could have continued P2 a little further up the short wall and maybe belayed up there somewhere. There are two options for P2 in the old guide so maybe that's the other. Looking at the old guide I think the RockFax line is on "Gargoyle, 110 feet, Severe", which meets this further up, which might be why some other people further down the comments found it "more like VS". Anyway the top pitch is awesome, and sunbathing at the top was nice :)

SuperLee1985 29 Aug, 2016 2nd O/S The first pitch was lovely, don't bother with the rest. Actually findin where the route was supposed to go on p2 & 3 was virtually impossible and we ended up scrambling almost up to the start of the 4th pitch. Getting down off the fist spike looked both hard and unprotecred a bit artificial as you can just walk round it. For some reason dan decided to downclimb from the 2nd pinacle and go up a horible chossy corner. I stuck to the actual route but he'd put gear in the choss on steves rope which resulted in an unhappy steve.

The only guidebook we had with us didn't offer any further wisdom on where to find the true start so we just skipped the first two pitches and went straight to the Pinnacles. col3 28 Jan, 2012 2nd O/S Excellent route, very alpine! Walk-up was quite dodgy, very loose and slippy - went straight up from road. Did in B2 boots. The first pitch is REALLY hard in boots! There are very few foot holds and hand holds are far apart, so as a short person I struggled! A lot of moves you just have to go for and hope. Paul pitched early behind a massive balanced block - good belay, better than if he'd belayed later I think. Fourth was back to rock! Lots of giant holds, lovely! Then the first pinnacle... terrifying. Second pinnacle had surprising lack of footholds but I just put my elbows round the top so my arms weren't doing too much work and shuffled. Scary! Amazing route though!
