Rockfax Description
The eye-catching rightward exit from the sea-level cave of the back wall is rarely attempted. The often-greasy first pitch has been the scene of a few epics. Start in the cave, which can be gained by an abseil or via an awkward traverse from Right Angle.

1) 5c, 16m. From the ledge, climb two steep, offset corners (aid, if at all damp) and pull out rightwards onto the open face to an awkward, hanging belay.
2) 5a, 17m. Climb the wall rightwards to the left-leaning corner/groove-line, and follow this to a protruding ledge and belay.
3) 10m. Finish up the corner. © Rockfax

We wanted to squeeze another in after Astral Stroll, late in the day, in February, with tides coming in on an often wet tidal multipitch route - what could go wrong? Gripped solid seconding the hard wet traverse above that bloody sea crevasse while glancing at a beautiful sunset in horror before even getting on the route proper. Up down the wet crux few times before hearing faint screams of Jenny getting wave washed, setup an intermediate belay and then aided 2pts past it (apparently common even in summer!) with ace runout head-torch climbing to the top. An amazing mini epic!

Rock on 1st pitch was in rare, dry condition. (Wouldn't fancy it in the wet!) Fantastic sea cliff route and 1st day climbing with G.B. for ~15 years. Great day.

Led pitch 1. Bit greasy. Climbing feels fine for 5c unless you kick out your only gear...

I led 1st pitch, Neil 2nd pitch. Well chuffed to do this. Conditions were good despite it being midday and an out-going tide on a cloudy day.

The first pitch out of the cave was damp and felt like verglass. Wait until evening and the sun comes round to enjoy it properly.

An early attempt to free this, as was still done with aid, but too wet for us to free, reduced aid to one point though. Watched anxiously by Rick's mum as we were 17 at the time.
