p1 is virtually a solo with some thin moves, personally would avoid and walk in from the right if i did it again, p2 was nice, started this on the right, p3 was pretty dirty but dry at least. wounldnt say it was a *** route and pretty hard going for the grade

Start of pitch 2 seemed V.hard and for a 'boulder problem' start not well protected. If I do it again I'll take the soft option the guide suggests as an alternative.

Led P1+3. First pitch very runout but otherwise excellent slab climbing, thin and sustained the whole way. P2 much more pleasant, with a hard step in the corner to start but good gear was quite a relief. P3 was harrowing. After the initial wall and bollard-ledge, looked up to find the finish pouring with water (it hadn't rained in a week and the rest of the route was mostly dry, with the exception of a puddle in the thank-god jug on P1). Misjudged what the “cigar-shaped rock” was meant to be and interpreted “the cracks on either side of the cigar” as an invitation to step right across a small gap and onto dry rock. Unfortunately, it quickly became clear that I had selected an option with only about 2m of rock of any kind, followed by 15m of very steep gearless heather. After an afternoon in the library, I’m pretty confident I finished up the adjacent route (see topo in the 1967 guide). The 1911 guide notes: “It reeks with danger and rank vegetation ; moreover, loose holds occur at crucial points…The writer trusts that few climbers will be attracted by Benison's Chimney.” Oops.

really disappointed not to get chance to lead any of this route due to an early epic trying to do it as a 3. lovely climbing, never hard, and well protected after p1

First 2 pitches lead by Cole and 3th by me. 1p - useless, 2p-nice slab and traverse to the right, 3p absolutely horrible wet and mossed chimney. it started to rain during 3p making situation even more wet and unpleasant.

Conan lead P1, Giles P2 and I got P3. Protection thin on P1 but abundant on P3. Giles took the bypass on P2 to avoid the initial corner, which I took direct on second. Nice climbing; holds all there, though often not obvious. Top pitch was a bit damp inside the chimney but fine on the sides.

What an amazing route. How can anyone think otherwise. All three pitches had really nice climbing. At least 2 stars 1st pitch quite poorly protected though but good gear after that.

Missed out p1 by traversing in to bottom of p.2 as per Cascade Direct (for some reason - perhaps wet?) Led p2 (5a), JAB led p3.
