Restricted Access

The area is a nature reserve and access to the crags on Frontales and Escalera Arabe is sensitive. You may see people driving up the track from the water tank, but it is not allowed and you could well be fined. It only adds around 15 minutes to the walk in. The whole El Navegador sector remains banned to climbing due to rare flora with the exception of the lefthand-most route. There are 2 signposts in front of the cliff and a wire fence to mark the restricted area but these have been pulled down by climbers.

146m, 6 pitches.

Rockfax Description
Start next to Rogelio behind a little carob tree.
Nice and easy pitches with an abseil descent.
1) 4b, 12m. A steady pitch to start (or run it into the next one).
2) 4b, 18m. Climb up to the left of three belays.
3) 5c, 28m. A well-bolted pitch to a ledge - belay on the left.
4) 4c, 30m. Climb behind the little olive tree and stay left.
5) 4c, 30m. Move left then straight up.
6) 5a, 28m. A good finish by the big tree above.
Descent - Abseil back down (5 x 30m). © Rockfax

βeta: Beware, 2nd Rappel from the top is more than 30m but still manageable with a 60m rope if you don’t care about not being tied in on easy ground. Rocks passed us on our way down. It was a busy day.

βeta: 1st belay station has a bolt that is only finger right. Had to wait about an hour while 2 parties descended, and lose rock everywhere, so we bailed after the 4th pitch. 5c pitch felt more like 5a. Beautiful views though!

βeta: The last belay is higher than the topo, it’s level with the tree. First three pitches are excellent, after that pretty poor and over graded.

βeta: Lots of loose rock, we had rockfall while pulling the rope on all but one of the abseil. One breezeblock sized block nearly got some people at the bottom and another just missed us and very nearly chopped our rope. Maybe not one for when the crag is busy.
