UKClimbing photo competition winners announced

© Colin Wells
Congrats to our winners:

1) Colin Wells for ("The loneliness of the long distance climber") [shown here] 2) Toby Whitley for ("A sense of scale")
3) Roy Thomas for ("Tunnel icefall in the french alps - view 2")

Congrats to all the winners, who will get their prizes (drop me an email with your address if you read this first, guys). But most of all thanks to those who entered - with so many entries, and so many of them so good, are you surprised it took us so long to decide? The judges were unanimous in thinking these were the best three, and that they met the rules.

Cool - Polar circus is a fab route.
You can now see the pictures *and* our explanations for why they're winners at http://www.ukclimbing.com/caff/features/winter2002comp.html . Once again, fab stuff by the winners. Charles

I thought the theme was winter climbing, 'A Sense of Scale' is Alpine summer without a doubt. Nice shot though, Chris

I agree, the blackness of the rock says summer to me - that gritty damp muddyness that rocks have when they appear from under snow. It is a lovely photo - but it just doesn't look like winter.
