£2,000 pledged toward purchase of Wilton Quarries

Several people have pledged money if the BMC decide to purchase Wilton Quarries off United Utilities.

The latest is a whopping £2,000.

"I often go to the Pugh and Co. auctions and was surprised to see the Wiltons popping up on the latest catalogue which I have only just looked at.

I am pleased to see something has already been done about it, good old UKClimbing.com and BMC, here the true value as a resource for all climbers shines through.

I may have bidded on them and will be happy to contribute a couple of k to a purchase fund, asuming the ownership and management issues etc are clearly laid out and addressed."

You can see who has pledged at this thread, www.ukclimbing.com/forums

The message to the BMC is clear. Climbers are willing to dig in their pockets for worthwhile major access and acquisition projects.

i just hope it doesnt make other council/ owned areas to think about selling up too to make a little profit from climbers!

Has anyone (except a brewery) ever made a profit out of a climber!!!!!!

When I saw it my thought was, wow you cold make that a lovely climbing venue, maybe build a hut and charge a modest fee to clubs/ individuls, all of which could contribute to the ongoing maintenance (no profit making). UU might even be willing to part with them to as a charitalble donation as hey will be able to write this off on their balace sheet. Is the BMC a charity? It will be great if this leads to a good venue being preserved and actively managed as a sucessful venue, it could really set a precedent for other similar crags, many of which are owned by UU.

Are you being sarcastic? £2,000 is hardly whopping when the price is £45,000!
