The bouldering world cup has now ended for 2012 and we chat with Stew about the team's performance in the final round in Munich, and how the season went for him.

INTERVIEW: Team talk with Stew Watson

Jack: Hey Stew. So, you were at the WC in Munich last weekend - who else was there from Team GB?

Stew: Dave Barrans, Edward Feehally, Adam Watson, Gill Peet, Diane Merrick, Mina Leslie-Wujastyk and Katy Whittaker were representing Team GB at the World Cup in Munich.

Stew: Team GB climbed well. The team was very focused, had a professional attitude, and importantly really wanted to do well. Ned and Adam made it into the semi-finals finishing 20th and 11th respectively. Dave Barrans had some issues in the qualification round with an injury meaning he couldn't give 100% but still climbed well considering - finishing 27th. Mina and Katy climbed well on the technical qualification boulders attaining places in the semi-final finishing 15th and 19th respectively. Gill and Diane made it into the top 30 contributing to the team's overall position of 6th. 

Jack: And what was the event like? Lots of spectators I heard?

Stew: The event was incredible. It was held in Munich's Olympic Park and the final had over 10,000 spectators. It was by far one of the loudest events with the spectators expressing their excitement as the climbers progressed though the different boulders. 

Jack: And that's the final round of the season - looking back how do you think it went, for yourself and for Team GB as a whole.

Stew: Team GB have had some awe-inspiring results this year. Teams from the other participating Nations are literally amazed by our progression. We have always had some good results in the past, and that should not be forgotten, but this year as a Team we have climbed exceptionally.

Personally, I was struggling at the start of the season but managed to find the key again and for the past two rounds of the Bouldering World Cup I felt like I climbed to my full potential. 

Jack: And Shauna missing out on the last round due to her leg - that was a shame!

Stew: It must be really disappointing for her. She will be back next year though, probably even stronger. 

Jack: And - any plans for next year?

Stew: Team GB will continue to progress. The Team has some fantastic support and a massive amount of potential. There are some young climbers entering the team and they will hopefully be inspired from the Team's recent progression and the standards will continue to improve.
