Blokfest Round 1 Report

The 3rd season of Blokfest has kicked off in style at the Westway Sports Centre. Almost 400 competitors arrived to take part in one of the most popular boulder events in the UK. It's not all about a competition though, with an emphasis on fun there are plenty of easy boulders for the taking meaning a fun packed day for all.

Stands from our sponsors DMM, Marmot, Vita Coco, Climbskin and Powerfingers were on hand to entertain the masses while they took a break from climbing.

After a 25 bloc tour the top climbers and usual suspects were in the final. Leah Crane on her return from shoulder problems and local girl Molly Thompson Smith were close and John Partridge, Matt Cousins and Tom Newman were the top three men to look out for.

The finals were set, the lights dimmed and the DJ cranked out the tunes. In the women's event we were unable to split Leah and Molly meaning that Leah won on count back and in the men's Tom Newman was strong throughout, only a slip denying him of three flashes in the final. A worthy performance in the final came from 16 year old Aidan Roberts, a name for the future maybe.

All that was left to do was to present the podium and hand out the prizes from our round sponsors Scarpa and Grivel, and throw the freebies to the crowd.

A massive thank you to all the Westway staff for their help, our sponsors and all the volunteers. See you at Boulder Brighton for round 2 on November 15th.
