LIVE VIDEO Barrans and Crane in Euro Champs Semis TONIGHT

Yesterday Team GB's Dave Barrans and Leah Crane fought through the qualification at the first International Bouldering competition of the year, the IFSC European Bouldering Championships in Innsbruck, Austria.

Both climbers qualified and are competing in the Semi Finals tonight at 5pm UK time.

Dave placed 5th in his qualification group (the field is split into two separate groups in the first round) and Leah 10th. The 6-strong GB team also included Ben West, Nathan Phillips, Matt Cousins and Orrin Coley.

Top British competition boulderer Shauna Coxsey unfortunately had to pull out of the event a few days prior due to injury.

UKC shouts a massive Good Luck to Dave and Leah!

The semi-finals will be streamed live tonight from 5pm UK time. Watch below:

Too bad they didn't make it. The euro-centric feel was even greater than normal this year. A complete lack of competitors from outside Europe: no Alex Puccio, no Akiyo Noguchi, no Sean McColl, no James Kassay. I seem to remember some mention of Kim Jain entering the bouldering events too this year but there was no one from Asia, the US or Australia at all from what I could see. Presumably it's just too expensive for climbers to go jetting around the world to all the comps. Alex Puccio was trying crowdfunding to get money to go the last I read. It definitely mars the event when so many top competitors are out. Only 2 of the top 5 women entered (though admittedly one was coz she was injured).

It was the European Champs, not a World Cup?!

Doh! Silly me. Thanks. Just assumed it was the same as last year's Innsbruck.
