17-year-old Angie Scarth-Johnson has climbed her first 9a with an ascent of Victimas del futur in Margalef, Spain. She is the first Australian woman to climb the grade. Over the past two years, she has climbed two 8c+'s: Pedra, paper, tisora in Margalef and Lucifer in Red River Gorge, Kentucky.
Laura Rogora has made the first ascent of Iron Man in Trentino, Italy, grading it 9a. It's been an exceptional year for the 20-year-old who has ticked up to 9a+, won a World Cup in Chamonix and competed in the Olympics.
Belfast-based Lucy Mitchell has flashed her first 8b with an ascent of Viens voir mon petit Jésus in France. She is the second British woman to have flashed the grade after Molly Thompson-Smith who has also onsighted at that level.
