Aidan Roberts flashes Momentum, 8B+Video

Aidan Roberts has made a flash ascent of Nalle Hukkataival's Momentum (f8B+), in Val Bavona, Switzerland.

First established in November 2012, Nalle described the boulder as a 'Tall overhang with explosive and powerful moves and very few footholds. One of the most amazing sequences I can think of! So simple, yet so intricate. A dream come true!'

Having initially been graded 8C, the boulder received a second ascent at the hands of Jan Hojer later that same month, with Hojer downgrading it to 8B+.

Aidan, who made the ascent back in April, recently shared some further details about the climb on instagram:

'A great feature established by Nalle. The line lies hidden amongst a field of huge boulders which scatter Bavonas valley bottom. As is often the case with my more considered flash attempts, it's usually the encouragement of others which inspires a good first go. This time it was Keenan Takahashi and Daniel Woods who recommended it and kindly gave me some good advice'.

'The climb prides itself in simplicity. Isolate on a small right hand and drive into the left foot to gain a lovely pinch. And only a few large moves create a tall and proud face of climbing'.

'Between intermittent rain showers and wavering motivation at the idea of a soggy top-out slab, a weather window opened and I was able to top out on my flash attempt, a great feeling!'

'The line and this style was enough to make this boulder inspiring. But the climb also gave me confidence, and meeting new people and reconnecting with old friends made the day a very special one for me'.

Aidan's flash of Momentum is his hardest to date, having previously flashed two 8B boulders, one of which - Vecchio Leone (f8B) - serves as the second part of one of his hardest first ascents to date, Vecchio Leone sds (f8C+).
