Climbing Centre Manager

Permanent position, Full Time (38 hours per week)

Location: Solihull, West Midlands – May 2022

Flash Climbing Centre, the 'friendliest climbing centre in the Midlands', is looking for a proactive and experienced Centre Manager to work alongside our team in our Solihull, West Midlands. With recent investments in new matting and our new wall construction (October 2021) of 120m2, the centre now boasts 240m2 of climbable walls with an average of 170 routes. As well as the climbing facilities, the centre also has a custom built 1 x woody and training area. We also run and organise local and regional competitions. This is an exciting opportunity to get involved with a young, growing, and ambitious indoor bouldering facility in the West Midlands.

Job Specification

As centre manager, you will be in charge of the staff team, which currently employs 4 full time staff plus 4 part time staff. The role reports directly to the Board of Directors and involves managing the day to day running of the centre.

We are looking for someone with previous management experience that is keen to push themselves, progress and thrive in a dynamic and fluid environment. The successful candidate will need to have previous management experience and demonstrate strong organisational and interpersonal skills, as well as have a good knowledge of the industry, pos software essential, Rock Gym Pro preferred, and the day to day running of a climbing wall.

Alongside our reception team, our Centre Manager is responsible for providing excellent levels of customer service in assisting Front of House - signing in customers, taking bookings, serving food. You will be expected to deliver a safe and welcoming environment for our customers. Working alongside the Coaching team, you will help deliver high quality coaching and to develop junior coaches, as well as some route setting. However, more than just delivering sessions, we are looking for someone to develop new business plans and new products, train and develop your team and venue, organise rotas, recruit, risk assess activities, and ensure general H&S and legal compliance.

You will be expected to work at least 38 hours a week. These are flexible hours, but will include some work on the weekends and during the weekday evenings.

Salary – £24,000 pa + bonus based on experience and qualifications.

Essential skills:

  • Experience of managing a group of people successfully and leading a team.
  • High level of IT proficiency – You will be involved in managing our online booking system, updating our website, and keeping all our social media feeds updated regularly.
  • Excellent level of customer service and communication skills – You will be expected to respond to all communications from customers and to treat all customers with understanding, fairness and courtesy.
  • High level of organisational skills – You will be expected to organise the day to day running of the centre, managing the bookings, both running and facilitating staff to run sessions, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Awareness and initiative – You must be able to react quickly to any problems and deal with them in a calm and efficient manner.
  • Up to date knowledge of coaching, climbing safety, and associated guidelines for safe practice – You will have instructor training such as CWI/RCI or other MLTB qualifications and/or relevant experience.
  • Vision – we need someone who can build on our successful business and capitalise on our facilities. Previous experience as duty manager in a leisure centre/climbing centre

Desirable skills:

  • Experience in route setting.
  • Up to date relevant first aid qualification.
  • Knowledge of, and previous experience in delivering NIBAS.
