Job outline
As the duty holder on shift within the climbing centre, the duty manager will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of day-to-day operations within the climbing wall, and other climbing areas within the sports centre. The duty manager will report directly to the Climbing Operations Manager and will be directly responsible for health and safety, cleanliness, and the customer experience within the centre whilst on shift. They will be a reference point for customers and other staff regarding all aspects of the centre and its programmes. The duty manager will be expected to step into any role in the centre as required whilst on shift, and will be able to maintain a high standard in all roles and tasks whilst in the centre.
Principal accountabilities
Customer service
- Working with the Climbing Front of House team to deliver exceptional customer service, managing all health and safety aspects of the registration process
- Assisting the front of house team with any booking and retail queries as necessary
Health and Safety
- Regularly floorwalking in the climbing centre, including partaking in regular scheduled checks whilst on shift
- Advising customers on health and safety concerns, and relevant best practices
- Being a key reference point for staff, including coaches, regarding any health and safety aspects of their actions in the centre
- Managing any first aid, rescue, or other emergency response required
Operational Tasks
- Completing opening, closing, daily, and other scheduled checks within the climbing centre
- Assisting the climbing maintenance team with cleaning and maintenance as required whilst on duty
- Assisting or leading on any other tasks, duties, or projects as required to ensure the safe and smooth operation of the climbing centre
Person specification
- Relevant customer service experience, ideally in the climbing industry
- Relevant personal indoor climbing experience, with up to date knowledge of current climbing best practice
- Personal experience and sufficient competence in top rope, lead, and bouldering
- Knowledge of Health & Safety within a climbing environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Punctual and reliable, with effective organization & time management skills
- Able to work with own initiative with a proactive & flexible attitude
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Able to work as part of a team in a busy environment
- Flexible in working hours
- Have a focus on Health and Safety
- Willingness to learn, with positive response to constructive feedback
Post - Climbing Duty Manager
Reports to - Climbing Operations Manager
Location - Westway / West1 Climbing Walls
Hourly Rate - £10.85, increasing to £11.07 upon completion of probationary period.
Hours - 40 hrs/week, rota based. Flexible working shifts and hours possible. Evening and weekend working will be neccessary.
