Kilian Jornet has won the Salomon Glen Coe Skyline race, completing the 55km course in a time of 6hrs 25mins 39secs to beat the 2016 men's record of 6hrs33mins. Swedish runner Emilie Forsberg was the fastest woman, finishing in a time of 7:53:30.

Second over the line was Jonathan Albon, last year's winner and record holder. Finishing in a time of 6:31:45, he gave Jornet a serious run for his money for the entire course.

Third was France's Alexis Sevennec at 6:40:34.

Jornet, a Spanish trail runner and ski-mountaineer, is the best known endurance athlete on the planet. Before the event, Kilian said, "I have heard about Glen Coe since the first year Emelie [Forsberg, winner of the inaugural event in 2015] ran and she just said, 'you must go there'. The technical ridges and the culture of mountain running in Britain really attracts me to run Glen Coe."

The route, which starts and finishes at Kinlochleven, is renowned for its rough, technical and exposed terrain, taking in the high ground surrounding Glen Coe including Buachaille Etive Mor, the Bidean nam Bian range and Aonach Eagach. Total ascent is 4750m, and notable hands-on sections include the grade 3 scramble of Curved Ridge and the traverse of the Aonach Eagach.

In the women's race, Emilie Forsberg finished in a time of 7:53:30 ahead of Megan Kimmel in 8:14:57 and Ragna Debats in 8:22:55.
