This afternoon, ultra-runner Paul Tierney completed a record breaking round of all 214 of Alfred Wainwright's Lake District peaks. For many people a Wainwright round is a lifetime of walking, but Paul covered the lot in an astonishing time of 6 days, 6 hours and 5 minutes.

In the process he has knocked nearly 7 hours from the record. The previous fastest time of 6 days, 13 hours and 1 minute was set by Steve Birkinshaw in June 2014; Steve came out to offer Paul encouragement on his attempt. Prior to that the record was held by another fell running legend, Joss Naylor, who ran the Wainwrights in 7 days 1 hour and 25 minutes in 1987.

Inov-8 sponsored runner Paul began his 318-mile challenge, which involves an epic 36,000m of elevation gain, at 8am on Friday 14th June, and finished just after 2pm today. Following a similar route to Steve Birkinshaw's 2014 line, he ran and speed-walked for six days straight, with only minimal sleep.
