It looks like a leopard snake, which are harmless. I don't recommend you pick one up if you see another though, I may be wrong. Check the scales on the head; if the snake has a few large plate-like scales on the top and sides of its head then it's a colubrid (harmless). If its head comprises lots of tiny sharp looking scales, it's a viper (poisonous).
