CHS's database doesn't seem to list a route by that name, but it looks like the area around 'Witherslack Alice'. Could it have changed its name over the years?

Thanks for that info. Fraser - it could well be, it's so long ago now that memory is unreliable. I remember that Al and did a lot of early exploring on Chapel Head and this photo will have been taken on the far left of the crag. As you say, could well have all changed by now!

Ah, in that case I'm probably mistaken thinking it is (or is near) 'Witherslack Alice', which is 1/3 of the way along the main face from the left, before the steep gulley. I've not been over the the very left of the crag since my first visit a few years ago, when I got thoroughly spanked on something relatively easy! It's a great crag with really enjoyable climbing and is probably the nearest, decent sport crag from Glasgow. The thought of doing trad there makes me shudder!

I'm fairly sure that is Dandelion Wine. The lower left of the area of the crag was omitted from the guidebook for access reasons. They only ever appeared in the 1979 supplement

Ah, that might explain it. Do I take it climbing in that sector is now banned?

Currently I think it still is, which is a shame as it's a big crag with lots of middle grade trad routes.
