The photo was taken on the final rognon which was icy and the crux of the route [we kept our crampons on the whole time].
I note from viewing more recent photo's that climber's seem to avoid climbing the rognon...why? It did give some enjoyable climbing.

Because it's easier and quicker! the Rognon was easily the crux when I did it in '83 in dry conditions.
