I've never bouldered outside before, but hoping to buy a bouldering pad and get out there soon! Has anyone got recommendations for good beginner boulders near Glasgow, Edinburgh, or anywhere in Scotland really? I know about Cunningar Loop, but seen mixed reviews. I also saw a post about Windyhill Quarry near Johnstone which looked suitable for beginners. Is this true? Thanks for any advice!

There's easy problems at Windyhill Quarry and the rock is nice with parking close by. But it is tiny and I imagine may soon be wet and ovegrown as winter sets in. Also evidence of much local drinking there abouts. It was nice for a visit during Spring lockdown but the driving there and back occupied me more than the climbing and I live Southside.

Wolfcrag Quarry is a good option. It's in Bridge of Allan, just outside Stirling. It's got easy access, parking right at the crag, flat landings and a good spread of problems. It's also quite sheltered so can be good during the winter as it's south facing and can stay dry even when raining.

Kips crag above Menstrie is graded for routes but is very short with easy lines.

Neilston Quarry diitto in more about routes but can give traversing and problems if you do the lower parts of routes and may be within any travel restrictions for you?

Craigmore has been bouldered along the base for decades now but may be a bit damp at this time of year. For easier problems try the lower parts of areas round Craigmore Corner and left of there and way up to the right hand end where the crag is much shorter.
