I’ve searched through the current thread on lost records and it has brought up a memory of a great album from about 15ish years ago. Can’t remember the group or name of the album though. Don’t think they did much apart from this.

It was some brilliant guitar pop, not mainstream but with a really exuberant feeling kind of sixties/beatlesesque sound updated.

The album cover was fairly memorable, had a picture of some tropical fish on a green/yellow background I think.

Can anyone remind me who/what it was, would really like to hear it again.

Might have been something to do with Las Vegas in the name of the album/group, but I could be wrong.

I used to work in a record shop. People like you used to come in and it was bloody annoying!

No, wasn’t that, the fish on the front were more normal looking!

Ha ha, not much to go on I know, just thought it might have jogged someone’s memory!

The art work description rings a bell. I seem to remember seeing it a lot in the Glasgow indie record shops in the eighties or 90s. My guess, would be that it's a Scottish band.

Creme Brulee ?

Lol, just looked them up...

Could be Scottish, definitely later than 80’s though, more like late 90’s early 00’s

Definitely not yours, but while looking for guitar music with fish on the album cover I stumbled across this and it's lovely: youtube.com/watch?v=DNCNcqXydHw&

Presumably not Glasvegas who are too late and don't have album covers like you describe.
 Blue Straggler 21 Dec 2017
In reply to Hillseeker:
Also presumably not Cocteau Twins' Heaven or Las Vegas which is 27-28 years old and has no fish on the cover (nor exuberant Beatles-esque sounds), but is Scottish and has Las Vegas in the title

Afraid not, thanks for thinking about it though.

Not them either. Might try another source of info, reckon the NME would have someone who knows....

In reply to Hillseeker:

Goodbye Mr MacKenzie - Five is quite a bit older than 15 years. Alternatively Nic Armstrong Greatest White Liar fits the description of the music well (and is a cracking album).
OP Hillseeker 21 Dec 2017
In reply to Toccata:

Afraid it was neither of those. Thanks for trying.

Something by the Boo Radleys?

Not the Boo Radleys, probably less well known than them. Thanks for trying.

My money was on you John.

That is so bizarre. Independently of this thread, I've always remembered the cover of The Big Dish's "Satellites" album even though I have never heard a note of their music and haven't seen the record since the early 90s. I guess it was in a lot of record shops and I was often looking through the B section (for what? Bang Bang Machine maybe?) and I thought the lady with the big hair was really intriguing and attractive

Apparently the band thought so too, or they were just getting value for money out of the photoshoot, as she is on the cover of two singles off that album too (in the same outfit)

Scots, eh.

I know my fish album covers.
OP Hillseeker 21 Dec 2017
In reply to JLS:
That was close!

The fish are very similar, more centrally positioned though I believe.....

Should say, I’m not sure about the Scottish connection, more likely to be an English or American group.

No , the fish weren’t as stylised as those. More normal looking I believe. Thanks for trying.

I think you're just being unreasonable now Allan. You've been offered several album covers with fish on them. Just accept that one of them is the album you're looking for.

Found it!

Velvet Crush - In the Presence of Greatness.

There was a tropical fish on the cover ( but also band members oops)

Just remembered I had a file on a memory stick of albums that were sold to a record shop...

That's cheating! Once you post you are committed to relying on the UKC hive memory, even if faulty!

Glad you found it though. I vaguely remember the name but would never have got that in a month of Sundays.

So an American bands' 1991 album with minimal fish on the cover. This was like a cryptic crossword clue.
