Could anyone describe how to smoothly and quickly pay out rope with a Clickup Plus?

I can't seem to figure it out even after watching multiple videos. The device works well when I'm slowly and steadily feeding out rope but tends to lock up on me when I want to pay out a big handful of slack quickly. What am I missing?

I don't think you are missing anything. It locks up unless you anticipate the need for slack and pay it out more slowly. They have turned the perfect belay device in to a badly  flawed one☹️.

Edit: I see the original Click Up is now widely available to buy again, so it seems they've got the message. Best bin the plus and get an original.

I don’t think the plus was ever intended to be a replacement for the click-up, they have both been available at the same time.

Have also heard the plus is rubbish!

Or get a Mammut Smart, smooth and simple.

The Click up plus, is a very poor belay device, because it is very difficult to pay out smoothly. Really bad for when your partner is on the crux and wanting the comfort of not a lot of rope out, but when they move you need to pay out nice and quick and smooth. 

I also have a Click up, which is great.

TBH I would say because I have heard other people have same issue that the Click up plus is not fit for purpose, but I assume most people assume user error.

Chuck it in the bin.
