What are the must do scottish mountain days? I'm going to be up from Monday to Thursday to get some QMDs in.

Pretty set on Ben Nevis tower ridge (i know its not really ML ground) and Beinn Eighe but would love to hear some suggestions - especially if there's anything interesting inbetween Fort William and Torridon.

South Glen Shiel ridge?

In reply to MG:

For that matter, North Glen Shiel ridge.

There's absolutely loads to do in this area. In terms of must-do days, or multi-day walks, you won't even scratch the surface in such a short trip.

The UKH Route Cards would be a good place to start:

Some ideas in more accessible locations...

Forcan Ridge https://www.ukhillwalking.com/logbook/r/?i=72

South Glenshiel (aka South Cluanie) Ridge https://www.ukhillwalking.com/articles/destinations/the_big_routes_south_cl...

Aonach Air Chrith https://www.ukhillwalking.com/logbook/r/?i=1373

Hills north of Glen Shiel (the 'Five Sisters' probably the most obvious choice) https://www.ukhillwalking.com/articles/destinations/the_big_routes_all_the_...

A couple of the Loch Cuaich hills https://www.ukhillwalking.com/logbook/r/?i=1354

Less easily accessed...

Sgurr na Ciche and Ben Aden https://www.ukhillwalking.com/logbook/r/?i=90

Someting on Knoydart https://www.ukhillwalking.com/logbook/r/?i=671

A big day in Glen Affric https://www.ukhillwalking.com/logbook/r/?i=1360

Subject to weather etc (which could have you heading for the Cairngorms instead), I'd look at the Forcan Ridge or Five Sisters in Dan's list above.

I'd also suggest the other Torridon hills, especially Liathach, and also the round of Coire Lair just to the south (Beinn Liath Mor, Sgurr Ruadh, Fuar Tholl).

If the North West is damp, you may get better weather in the East, so Braeriach/Cairn Toul, Ben Macdui etc might come into play.

Sgurr na h Uladh in Gkencoe, I wouldn’t do again.

The two grassy bumps to the east of the high point of the A9.

Carn Aosda and The Cairnwell.

Thats about it really. All of the others are magic in their own way.

Yeah. I might change my name to that

To be fair, on a day when not much is achievable, a big boring lump might be just the ticket.

If you’re an aspirant ML, you’ll find much more navigation challenges in the Cairngorms, I have happy memories of a night ascent of Macdui from my training week. And away from the honey pots there’s a subtle magic about the place.

In reply to Dan Bailey - UKHillwalking.com:

Blimey, when did political correctness catch up with Loch Quoich? It'll be brontosauruses next, mark my words.

Arran does have everything to offer albeit no Munro peaks. Easy access as well from South of the border. Ridges are amazing even out with the main range. The Western range although largely rounded. The Barnacle ridge is a good exposed scramble route. I would stick with the main range first though as its top class. Avoid the Goatfell tourist path as it gets pretty busy unless a quick descent to the pub at the bottom is required.

Dan Bailey's book "Great Mountain Days in Scotland - 50 classic hillwalking challenges" is a really good source of inspiration: https://www.cicerone.co.uk/great-mountain-days-in-scotland

I've done quite a few of them over the years, I recall a couple being a bit epic in scale and worth doing over 2 days with a wild camp, the descriptions include details on potential camping.

Another excellent book, again by Dan Bailey, is "Scotland's Mountain Ridges": https://www.cicerone.co.uk/scotlands-mountain-ridges

That covers a wide range of terrain from easy scrambles to full on climbs.
