In reply to sloper: bugger wrong fora, this should of course be inRocktalk, ps anyone interested in doing some routes?
Woker 09 Sep 2004
In reply to sloper:
weather looking piss poor for the peak this weekend.
Woker 09 Sep 2004
In reply to sloper:
BTW are you thinking of replacing the original chock or with any old chock, so do you know the whereabouts of the original chock ?

Also are you planing on leading it before and after replacement to assess quality ?

In reply to sloper: If you were willing to wear a t-shirt with a logo, we could likely arrange sponsorship.
sloper 09 Sep 2004
In reply to Woker: I'll pick up a series of likely looking candidates and just go for the one with the best fir.

I led it some years ago and have no burning desire to do so sagain.
Bored 09 Sep 2004
In reply to sloper: i hope you are actually planning to climb it and not just trying to be a hero.
dark_star 09 Sep 2004
In reply to Bored & Sloper: Assuming the latter, Sloper- wear your undies over your trousers.
sloper 09 Sep 2004
In reply to dark_star: is that the current fashion?

Only for people with buttocks resembling slugs - should suit you fine.

Was it not Chockstone Replacement Therapy that made Margaret Thatcher even more batty?
Boy Global Crag Moderator 09 Sep 2004
In reply to sloper: I will go and re-climb this route some toime in the next few months. If there is a stone in place I will remove it.
Chris the Tall 09 Sep 2004
In reply to sloper:
Would it really hurt you to leave the route alone ?
Particularly as you have no intention of doing it in either style ?
Iggy_B 09 Sep 2004
If you children can't play nice I shall arrange for the route to be coated in cement and the crack to be filled. Then no one can play with the rock :P

In reply to sloper: assuming you're not doing this as a wind up, then here's my opinion...

1) don't f*ck about with a chockstone that you can't be sure of because

a) if it is a touch too small and someone lobs onto it and it pulls, then that is on your shoulders and

b) if it's too big and someone tales issue with it and decides to remove this jammed and stuck thing, who knows whether they'll use something other than brute force to remove it eg a chisel and crowbar

2) as has been said before, rocktalk is NOT A PLACE TO GAIN APPROVAL. many people on here are saddos who love the sight of their own cyberspace rantings but never actually get out and climb. go to the peak area meeting on the 30th, as i hope that simon lee character will.

cheers!

In reply to sloper: I am confused - before you stated:

>While i totally disagree with Simon's actions I think rather than get to upset about this we should recognse that A. Simon has been honest enough to admit to his actions and give his reasons and B. There are more pressing problems facing the grit eg over brushing and chipping which seems to be almost de rigeur (and lets not get started on the over use of chalk and donkey lines).

So in similar fashion A. What changed your mind? B. Why the hurry?
In reply to sloper:

It's turning into a rather comic image now, of holy men converging on Curbar this weekend, bearing gifts of chockstones; and there will no doubt be something of an unseemly scramble to be first on the abseil rope to commit the heroic deed and beatified.

Suggestion for those who are just a bit slow off the mark in contributing to this noble act. Club together, take your chockstones to Cloggy, and replace/reconstruct the Rickety Innards in Cloggy Chimney.

No, it will be on the shoulders of the person that originally decided they had the right to make the decision for everybody and removed it

In reply to Gordon Stainforth:

Hehe, after several days of debate (and I'm throwing my own arguing into this - i can't resist it), there's a part of me that hopes someone returns the route to its 'natural' state and fills the entire quarry in....
 Jon Greengrass 09 Sep 2004
In reply to sloper: I hope you will be preplacing a bolt in said chockstone, makes it so much easier to clip in. Have you ever tried threading a chockstone with 6" quickdraw slings?
