I never cheat at WORDLE, however if there's some ridiculous American word I've never heard of I consider it fair game. Often there are 16 recognisable words, this makes a good Puzzle which I increasingly enjoy.

I enjoy it. It's different from Wordle in that I might do it quickly or, more likely, I might get stuck, take a break and come back to it hours later. Most of the time at least three of the colours have a sensible gettable solution for a Brit. I also enjoy that the failure rate is high, so that to get beyond a week is good going.

I'm appealing to you avid NYC Connections players. I've been developing a helper for the puzzle. So far I've only used it myself, but would love some feedback from regular users to help improve it. Would be great if people want to try it, and feedback any other common scenarios that I can implement help for.
It's designed to assist (not solve outright!) when you're stuck.
Its most useful features are:
1. Say you have CUP and BAG on the grid and you think that they are words follow TEA, but you don't recognise anything else on the grid that follows TEA. If you do a google search in this scenario for "Which words follow Tea?", it only returns single compound words, not two word phrases. This helper addresses this specific scenario, and suggests other words which, if they are on the grid, can confirm your picks from the grid. It also works with words that precede other words.
2. Helps with "one away" scenarios, and words with missing letters, and homophones.
You're limited to 5 free queries per day to keep the puzzle-solving fun intact!

Been there so many times. I have given up on trying to get somewhere with that sort of train of logic. I just get in a muddle.
However, no, your example does not mean that D and E must both be wrong. Say A were wrong, and B, C, D and E were right. In that case, both ABCD and ABCE would be one away.
I think they must both be right or both be wrong. If D was right and E was wrong, then one of A,B or C must be wrong and the combination ABCE would have to be two away. If E was right and D was wrong, the same applies to the combination ABCD.
Check my logic, I may well be wrong, but that makes sense to me at the moment.

Really, we need to consider what we mean by right and wrong.
You are told that three of ABCD go together, and that three of ABCE go together.
From this, possible right combinations are
ABCX, ABXD, AXCD, XBCD, ABXE, AXCE, XBCE
where X is some other word, and X cannot be D or E if A, B and C are all present.
This, I think, means that the only options are
ABCX, ABDE, ACDE, BCDE, ABDE, ACDE or BCDE.

ABCX is the case where both D and E are wrong.
ABDE, ACDE, BCDE are the 3 possible combinations in which both D and E are correct.

Knew three of the blues, yellow was a random guess. Not only failed at purple but couldn't understand the explanation and had to Google it.

I got the purple connection but only knew three of them and dropped a point before a bit of a lightbulb moment when I realised what the yellows were.

You now need a subscription to do the NYT mini crossword. I have a basic subscription, but not enough to cover games that aren't freely available, it seems. Spelling Bee similarly needs one. I hope Connections and Wordle aren't in line.

I occasionally don’t get into Spelling Bee because I’m blocked by an advert for subscription. If I try again later it usually disappears and I get in OK.
