Hi All,

Firstly let me apologise for the use of these forums for non-climbing subjects. I am hoping to 'crowd source' the combined UKC knowledge.

I have recently moved to Kendal from Cornwall and am investigating options for work.  I am an experienced carpenter/joiner with a wide range of skills and experience with a particular focus on sustainable/low energy building.

For the previous 7 years I have been running my own small building company. During this time I have had the pleasure to work on some fantastic and unique projects all with a strong environmental ethic. As the main contractor I have been exposed to all aspects of the build process from design and planning through to site management and getting stuck in on the tools.

Previous to this I spent 6 years working as a self employed site carpenter working for small to medium sized builders and carpentry contractors, gaining experience and consolidating skills.

I am currently seeking work as a site carpenter in and around the South Lakes area.  I would very much like to find a building company with a passion and knowledge for sustainable construction as I feel that this is were my skills and knowledge are based.

I would very much appreciated any leads or contacts that you guys might know of. Long shot I know but worth a try!

Thanks in advance.  Paul

As far as I know, Russell Armer have a better reputation round here than most and seem to build more interesting houses than the run of the mill. They would appear to be looking for someone like you at the moment.

I think at least one of the owners is a keen climber.

Look up these guys, who built a super-looking eco building on the site of the former Purple House in the Newlands valley, admittedly in the N Lakes. Not sure where else they work, but they might be able to help or offer leads:

That house looks amazing and looking at some of their other projects it definitely seems like the sort of work I want to get involved with. I'll drop them a line. Thanks

I liked the purple house, even though it was a wreak.

Bit of a side-track, but it had an interesting back story - https://beautifulrailwaybridgeofthesilverytay.wordpress.com/2009/07/21/in-m...

I thought it was tasteful and nicely done, but the dining table and chairs in the bedroom was a bit much...

Ah, now I understand, thanks to Bob's link.
I assume that's why the new one has a purple door.

A copy of 'Machine Head' in a discreet corner would've been good.

Hiya

Someone drew my attention to these guys the other. They do have a website but I can't find it just now. They can probably help you link up with tradesmen in the area.

Thanks. I had seen them online and sent an email. Does seem like they do a lot of design work around here. Also seem to have done quite a few Passivhaus projects too.

Thanks for all your help.
