Are Goldfinches less susceptible to the European finch infection than other finches? Are they hardier?
I used to see more Greenfinches and Chaffinches in my garden, but now it is almost solely Goldfinches.
In reply to veteye: Apparently greenfinches have been particularly decimated. I am not in the UK and the greenfinch is/was our dominant finch along with the house sparrow, but there do seem fewer.
Sorry for slow reply. I'm on call and had a couple of cases to deal with.
I have loads of sparrows-like an extended family in a fairly open bush near to my kitchen.They seem to be thriving now.
