Evening

I’ve got tickets for Metallica next June at Hampden on a Thursday night and am after somewhere for us  to stay.

Presuming the concert finishes at 2300( not a clu if it does), what are the logistics for transport.

Is Florida the nearest station and where can you get to? I’ve got options of Coatbridge, Milngavie, Motherwell .

Any guidance gratefully received.

I would avoid Coatbridge and Motherwell if possible, particularly late at night! Milngavie is a nicer place, just would go there if the transport works out.

Thanks girlymonkey.

Yes, I’ve been to Motherwell but not a clue what Coatbridge was like.

Presumably if we go to Milngavie, we either need to get to Queen Street or get a taxi if there’s anything about?

Our other option is to extend our week in Arisaig and get two nights accommodation Balloch area.

My wife would come and pick us up then.

In reply to Dave the Rave:

If it's Hampden, the concert will stop at 11pm at the latest.

But you'll probably not be able to get to Milngavie at that time of night by train. From Hampden, the last trains into town - Glasgow Central (High Level) - are 11:10 then 11:38pm. From there, you'd need to switch to the west-bound Low Level platform to get to Milngavie. The last train for there however leaves Central at 11:04pm. They pull the carpets in early round these parts, sorry!

Fyi, the direct trains to Milngavie switch from Queen St. to Central at about 7pm.

If you download the Scotrail app, it'll be useful for alternative destination. Good luck.

Edit: I just checked if buses could work but you're too late for the Glw. to Miln. connection at that time of night.

Thanks very much Fraser, that’s really helpful.

Ideally, I’m looking for premier inn type accommodation in the town centre, but their calendars don’t go that far forward yet.

After 8pm ish, the Milngavie trains are from Glasgow Central.

Last train 2331 from platform 17 this Thursday.

The fastest way into the city centre after a gig may be to walk, but it takes an hour. Alternatively there's regulated queues to get the train which depending on queues could be quicker.

If you can get accommodation in city centre, science centre/BBC at pacifc quay or SEC it's walkable, but a long walk (3 or 4 miles) after a gig.

Taxis at hampden - no idea

In reply to Dave the Rave:

No problem. A friend was at a concert at the Armadillo last week (city centre) and just got a room in the Radisson Red, also very near the SECC. Think she said it was about £70 for her and her pal but i can check. Something like that might be your best option just to avoid the faff.

I've walked it the other way late at night and it would take about 45 minutes from the city centre to Hampden area.

Oops, so it is. I'd thought it was Monday today and saw the last train listed as being at 23:04, but that's on Sundays!

In reply to Fraser:

Thanks Fraser. I’ll have a look at that hotel.

A walk back is possible. We went to Manchester to watch the Piixies last weekend and had a nightmare with a cancelled train to Chester, so I’m trying to plan well in advance for this.

In reply to Dave the Rave:

I went with my wife and 3 teenage kids to see the Foo Fighters there last summer. We stayed at the Premier Inn at Newton Mearns and took the train in from Patterton to Mt Florida, which worked great for getting to the gig.

The journey back was difficult to say the least. The queue from the stadium to Mt Florida was so long that we missed the last southbound train and no extra southbound services had been put on.  We were redirected to another queue to wait for a bus. At 1:30 am we gave up on public transport and called an Uber.

I seriously considered running back to Patterton (5 miles) to get the car from the station car park to pick up the wife and kids, it would have been faster!

In reply to Jon Greengrass:

Thanks for this Jon.

That is what I expected and it’s a similar size gig.
I’m looking  at walkable options such as that Radison Red.

cheers

In reply to Dave the Rave:

The Premier Inn City Centre South (The Gorbals) would be a much shorter walk from Hampden than the Radisson Red.

Edit: 45min vs 1h15

In reply to JLS:

Thanks JLS. There’s very little accommodation left as expected, and Premier Inn don’t go that far forward with bookings as yet.

thanks very much
