Next step, solar charging (or some other process, perhaps using salt-water?) to re-charge the "blood" and you have something that could almost be described as living - instead of eating it would need to seek out re-charges to ensure its continued survival and thus become to some degree sentient. Scary stuff or amazing development, you decide......
