Plants need light to grow so I'm not sure that it would be possible. April Fool/Slow news day?
chickenpox 15 Apr 2009
In reply to Toby S: not all plants need light do they? What about all the growth found on dense jungle, caves etc

oh my god, this must mean that chewing gum gets wrapped round your ribs if you swallow it as well. Mums are well clever *fears*

In reply to Tobias at Home:

Also apple pips contain significant cyanide. A cupful would be potentially fatal.

In reply to Tobias at Home: No way. Most people know that the tree will grow out of the top of your head!... Good luck.

plants need light to grow but a seed doesn't need light to germinate so i guess it is possibly possible?

 Mckenzie 15 Apr 2009
In reply to chickenpox: to photosynthesis all plants need light energy - those in caves will be in a position where they get light for a few hours of a day - and in jungles you get less vegetation lower, and much, much more in the canopy.

But when plants first start growing they do not - hence you plant them underground (no light) because the seed contains a tiny amount of nutrience that will help them grow out of the soil.

The story is still a load of.... beep...
 Mr Fuller 15 Apr 2009
In reply to Tobias at Home: The chance of a seed germinating in a pit of acid is pretty low. As it has no light (or significant CO2 or O2) it could never get very big either and would die pretty fast. Fake methinks.
Footyfan4 15 Apr 2009
In reply to Mr Fuller:

It wasn't in a pit of acid though, it was in his lung. Lots of C02 and 02 there. If not light.

In reply to Tobias at Home: Seems more likely that he inhaled a 2 inch stick to me, rather than growwing a tree.

GIYF

"Apple seeds need cold stratification to germinate". So you have to keep the apple outside, in the freezer or in the fridge on full for a bit first.

In reply to 'Hilda': It looks green in that pic, so must have been exposed to light? Reckon he inhaled it somehow.

I always eat apple pips. How long before I die? Next week?

In reply to Chris F:

You might need root canal treatment. Its a specialised branch of surgery.
 Chris F 15 Apr 2009
In reply to GrahamD: I don't like needles!

In reply to Chris F:

Where does your fear stem from ? it leaves you in a difficult situation. Many people would crumble if they had an apple tree groing inside them.
 Chris F 15 Apr 2009
In reply to GrahamD: Not sure, some core issues. Maybe genetic, Granny Smith was the same.

In reply to Chris F:

SO have I. Given I'm nearly 45, and you are a youth of 39, I would suggest you have at least six years. I'll let you know if I start feeling unwell

It is on 5 news now, it is bloody true you know!!

In reply to Yrmenlaf: Cheers. Can you have it written into your will just in case? "In the even of my death can someone please PM Chris F confirming cause?"

Appreciate it.

God knows how it got in there, but that looks like a twig rather than a sapling...

Elementary logic my dear Dr Watson Godel (I shall see you later mm mmm). Necessary, but not sufficient

You might have to do other stuff too, but if you really give a shit I can ask my mum, she's a gardener as well as a myth spreader.

In reply to Tobias at Home:

You work to much with grain ie. oats, wheat, barley, etc. you can end up with fungi spores growing in your lungs. They don't need light and like damp conditions - google farmers lung.
 Chris F 16 Apr 2009
In reply to craig h: You can also get fungus from batshit and stuff in caves growing in your lungs. Nice.

- google farmers lung.

Perhaps you should try doing exactly that. Farmer's lung has nothing to do with fungus growing in the lungs.

There are nasty systemic fungal infections like aspergillosis and candidiasis but these are almost always associated with immune deficiency of one sort or another. I should have thought the same would be the minimum requirement for having trees growing in your lungs!
In reply to Tobias at Home:

My mother also told me that if I didn't wash my ears, I'd get potatoes growing in them.

There once was a young man from Leeds
Who ate an entire packet of seeds
But it soon came to pass
in a bit of a farce
that it just wasn't flowers, but weeds

[he went on to marry a Young Lady from Pitlochry...]

In reply to thin bob: Is he a descendant of the man from Nantucket.
