it very much is in modern use, it's used across all Germany's armed forces as their basic identification mark. it's painted on the side of almost every modern military vehicle. (t.b.h. I don't think this vehicle is military, maybe the owner is - at least they're not rocking fake bullet-hole stickers alongside.)
it's not to be confused with the vaguely similar "balkenkreuz". given that it's a criminal offense to display nazi symbols in germany, you don't see many cars driving around with that sort of stuff wapped all over the side-panels.
