Was it Mars? 5.30, opposite direction to Jupiter, very bright and reddish and low in the sky. Think it was, very impressive.

That was probably Venus. Venus set in the West in the early evening. Mars is rising in the East right now.

In reply to HakanT:

Thanks. It’s now cloudy to the east….

Is this the dawning of the Age of Aquarius?

By having a look on HeavensAbove (great website - have a play with the ISS), from my location (yours won't be that different) at 5:30, Jupiter was at about 62deg so towards E and Venus was at about 212deg so not far off SE - both very low at that time; Mars not visible until about 8:30.

It's also got a good visualisation of exactly how much crud a certain Mr Musk has put up there.

I will, thanks. A very early start for me tomorrow, might see a few stars and sunrise.

Its been fun doing my night shifts this month watching the moon hurtle towards mars and then zip past it earlier this week.

Mars is obvious, it's the red planet. OK not actually red, but when there's planet's visible, Mars is the orangey one.

I have an app called Night Sky that’s great for identifying celestial stuff. Check it out.

Another couple of useful bits online -

IntheSky https://in-the-sky.org/

It can be set to any location and shows what there is to see and coming up in the next few days.

and

Stellarium - https://stellarium.org/

It is a free download, can be set for anywhere. It shows the sky in any direction and the view can be moved forward and backwards in time.

It was Venus.

I tool a snap of it from Morocco.

More impressive in the flesh, or rock I guess.

The reflection of a planet on the ocean was a first for me.
