Having had some useful and amusing suggestions for entrance and exit music I'm now pondering wedding playlists...

Your top 3 suggestions welcome... I'm slightly light on pure pop classics (as opposed to cheese - which there's plenty of!) - especially those that will get and keep folks dancing

Cheers
Mark

In reply to MarkM: Abba. Everyone wants Abba at a wedding.
You can't go wrong with Stevie Wonder either, in fact Tamla Motown is a safe bet.

It's toned down a bit from our pub setlist (e'g' we don't play Hysteria at weddings - it's not really a dance number)

In reply to MarkM:

Well, our first dance was Dobie Grey, 'I get my kicks out on the floor', and the first dance for the rest of the room was 808 State, 'Cubik', and that was before it was in the charts! It was my mate's Scooter Run DJ pals that did me a favour......

Best wedding I've ever had (sic), but the posh side of the family and my more staid mates and partners were horrified!

Great fun.

Oysterband It's a rubbish you-tube, but I love the sentiment of this song - It's off the album Holy Bandits

aside. I hadn't seen this vid before, but I think various bits of my extended family and friends keep getting in the way with their bouncing aroundness

you're right and shockingly there's none on there at the moment but that will be addressed thanks.

stevie wonder - which track? Is there one great Stevie Wonder track for dancing to?

In reply to MarkM: Something worth bearing in mind - all the weddings I have been to which have had dance floor and DJ (and that includes all the weddings I did when I worked in a function room) have had a set sequence of events.

- first few songs strike up and everyone has a dance
- people seem to get bored of dancing pretty quickly and retreat to the bar
- bride's mates desperately try to keep the dance floor busy so that the bride can boogie the night away but don't necessarily enjoy the dancing themselves
- most over the age of 25 leave after about one hour because they can't hear themselves think
- those who remain, stand around miserably because they don't want to dance and can't strike up conversation because the music is too loud

Just a thought.

Out of interest, what did you choose for the entrance and exit music?

3 of those in there already - and have noted a few more as possibles
 deanr 27 Apr 2010
In reply to MarkM: Greenday "I hope you had the time of your life" as the last song
MarkM 27 Apr 2010
In reply to DreadyCraig:
went with the simple classical choice for entrance tghat she'd chosen i the first place Jesu Joy of Man's Deisring (had a good night listening to sugestions tho) - not sure if we've chosen exit music finally yet...
MarkM 27 Apr 2010
In reply to EeeByGum:
Hmmm - I have been to a couple like that ...but none when I've been DJing ! ...well Ok there was one that did sort of follow that pattern after 40 min ... but then I didn't know I was DJing til half an hour into the event and was left with someone else's records and no view of the dance floor.

But it's not following a standard format as the wedding party will be the day after the wedding itself and The DJ set will be at the end of an evening of live music with a local jamaican Ska band headlining...
there will be plenty of opportunity/places for family and others to head off elsewhere to chat and unwind - but I'm pretty sure there will be a good crowd dancing til 4 a.m....
cheers
Mark

In reply to MarkM:

There's a load of great dance tunes by Stevie Wonder from before he went a bit MOR.

How about "For Once In My Life"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vxVyaYuGYE&feature=related

healthy dollop of wedding cheesiness too and you could all dance like the lasses in the vid!

In reply to MarkM:

Really? Is no-one going to suggest "99 problems" by Jay-Z? Is it going to have to be me AGAIN who lowers the tone?

Fine. So be it. "Fire in the Disco", followed by "99 problems". You know it makes sense.
 Philip 27 Apr 2010
We had "I was made for loving you" by KISS as our second song.

In reply to MarkM: Dueling banjos?
 Rampikino 27 Apr 2010
In reply to MarkM:

Funnily enough we are just doing ours for our wedding on Saturday.

Duelling banjos does not feature.

A friend of mine did have "Help" by the Beatles...
In reply to MarkM:

I went to a wedding recently where the happy couple were played out of church to the tune of 'It Ain't Me, Babe', sung by Johnny Cash. I wasn't sure about that on several levels.

In reply to MarkM:

Where are you going to be playing this (likely) crap? In a church? What's going on here?
In reply to MarkM:

A mate recently had this as his first dance - thought it was something a bit different:

I'd walk out, frankly, if I heard that drivel starting up.

hey, not to everyones taste gordon! I thought it was good. Old farts like you obviously prefer a more traditional piece maybe?!

We played a wedding near Falkirk last month where they had The timewarp (on Ipod i hasten to add) as their first dance and got everyone onto the dancefloor before it started.
fijibaby 28 Apr 2010
In reply to Hat Dude: Funkiest tune ever writen.
To the OP, we had a DJ at our wedding who had a laptop with thousands of tunes, and was happy just to do requests all night. Public Enemy was requested and played, as well as the Mamas and the Papas.

Got most of my suggestions in that playlist - nice one.

Kung Fu Fighting gets people dancing...and falling over

Stevie wonder can only be Superstition...but not great for weddings
MarkM 29 Apr 2010
In reply to Gordon Stainforth:

> Where are you going to be playing this (likely) crap? In a church? What's going on here?

Well we're having a wedding in a chapel... for which I'd earlier received some suggestions for entrance and exit music - some sensible - and some not so - though some very amusing amongst those.

After the wedding there will be a reception, where I'm hoping at some point people will want to dance - hence the request for songs for a wedding playlist... which you are welcome to contribute towards...

Or if you'd prefer to contribute to the earlier thread on entrance and exit music that's here... http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?t=403402&v=1#x5784247

Or alternatively please just carry on and make further disparaging remarks...

Thanks
Mark

Indeed - and perhaps more appropriate than Superstition?!

Cheers
