It would appear that teenage girls are becoming more violent and carrying weapons. Well that is the discussion on Radio 2 at the moment.

In reply to The Lemming:

Anybody comes at me with a (melee) weapon, they'll be eating their meals through a straw for the foreseeable future...whether they're female of not.
 Lemony 15 May 2008
In reply to Mike Hartley: Anyone who comes at me with a weapon will understand why I used to represent my school at the 200m sprint!

The New NickB 15 May 2008
In reply to The Lemming:

I would not use violence against anyone, except to defend myself or others who could not defend themselves.

I have never hit a woman, but I have restrained one using a necessary amount of force, if I though a punch was the best course of action, the fact that it was a woman would not stop me. Hopefully that situation will never arise.
 Alex Roddie 15 May 2008
In reply to The Lemming:
My tactic will be to sneeze in their face. My sneezes are powerful enough to propel me several feet through the air. I suspect this is in fact my super-power: I'm Hayfever Man!!
Earl Tyrconnell-Smythe 15 May 2008
In reply to The Lemming:

yup i would hit a girl in self defence, if she had a weapon or there were mor ethen one.

they might not be strong btu you could easily loose a precious eys or sumat if attacked by a furious girl.

in sayign that ive never hit or raised my hand to a woman or girl my whoel life, im not the sort to
 Lemony 15 May 2008
In reply to The New NickB: Yes, I once had to restrain a lass who was trying to harm herself and I suspect it wasn't comfortable for either of us but it was such an unpleasant thing to have to do that I doubt I could go any further.
 jonnie3430 15 May 2008
In reply to The Lemming:

My sisters and I would have had less of a childhood if we didn't fight during it.
johnj 15 May 2008
In reply to The Lemming: I think a Karate chop is acceptable, obviusly not hard enough to kill them, just hard enough to make them angry, really angry, to the point where girls go bad
 Dom Whillans 15 May 2008
In reply to The Lemming: i did once punch a girl, it was after extreme provocation of an exceptionally childish nature in a student flat and resulted in both of us laughing our tits off after she had got up off the floor.

Exactly, I was in two fights when I worked in Northern Ireland, I won the first by about 400m the second by at least 600m....

Tim Chappell 15 May 2008

I've never hit a girl. I don't see myself starting to. Marriages (and families) should be places where violence is not just absent, but inconceivable.

On the street, of course, you might have to defend yourself from some crazy, if running away wasn't possible-- and then the gender of the crazy would be irrelevant.
Tim Chappell 15 May 2008
In reply to Tim Chappell:

Oh, confessional stop press: as a small boy I used to hit my little sister a lot. But that all stopped when she got to about the age of 5, and learned to hit back

My friend got attacked by a group of 3 15 year olds on her way home from work-she was just minding her own business talking on her phone to her boyfriend. They kicked her in the head, back and legs.

I would not refrain from hitting someone, whether they be young or female in this situation.
 Monk 15 May 2008
In reply to The Lemming:

If I was being attacked I would do what was necessary to defend myself, whatever the sex of the assailant. So far i have never hit a woman though, but I have been hit by them and had to block punches etc
 sutty 15 May 2008
In reply to The Lemming:

I did hit one hard once after she leapt on me and grabbed my hair in a dance hall after I asked her to try not to step on my wifes feet again. I then picked up a chair to fend off her boyfriend who also wanted a go, and would have used it if needs be. I don't like being hurt, once someone has a go at me anything and everything goes.
 John Wood 15 May 2008
In reply to The Lemming:

When i was at uni, one of my mate's took an underdose, called me to tell me what she'd done, then hung up. 1471 told me she was at home and I got her an ambulance. She got fed charcoal at the hospital and got pumped and then sneaked out to avoid having to see a shrink.

After discussing the matter with the Samaritans I decided that calling her mum was the best option.

Meanwhile, my mate had decided that going back to hospital was the best option. and i met her there, where she decided to practise her martial arts class on me for calling her mum.

I then discovered that in fact i couldn't hit a girl who wasn't my sister and curled up to collect the bruises. A nurse pulled her off me.

So short of a weapon, no i couldn't hit a girl. I'd hope that the thought of a knife would shock me into action.
 John Wood 15 May 2008
In reply to Tim Chappell:

Hitting your sister doesn't count. Sisters aren't girls. Sisters are annoying and hitting them helps them to be less annoying.
 adam carless 15 May 2008
In reply to The Lemming:

It doesn't really matter what kind of DNA a creature has, if it's attacking me I'll defend myself. Doesn't matter whether it's male, female, mammal, lizard, or triffid.

As an aside, "fighting" isn't really a good term because it implies some form of rules, and seeing who will win. The term "defence" implies stopping or subduing an attacker - there's no rules, winning, losing, etc.

And yes, I have hit a girl, my sister was a right pain when she was younger.

I used to be reasonable at cross country and would employ a similar tactic. I don't want to be a statistic nor do I want someone to be part of the rest of my life.
 PontiusPirate 15 May 2008
In reply to adam carless:

Ah Adam, but wasn't she being annoying because you'd just created some contrivance to electrocute her with?

I'm glad you two get on ok now, you wouldn't have a roof over your head!

Sounds like a perfectly reasonable experiment to me....

Felt close to hitting that thing next door last night when she shouted at my wee one for annoying her dogs..she kinda resembles a girl if ye squint yer eyes :oP
 John Wood 15 May 2008
In reply to anansie:

Is this the one who tried to feed your kitten to her dog?
 anansie 15 May 2008
In reply to John Wood:

Yup...my Rayne was apparently annoying her dogs ( may have been the exhaling whilst breathing? :o/)and she told her to clear off! I always said I wouldn't retaliate ( and i haven't!)but my eldest daughter has her own mind and told her to 'bugger off ya manky munter!'. Told her off as this isn't how i want her to behave obviously ( told her young ladies shouldn't speak that way and she agreed and apologised)..but, had to have a wee titter to myself :oP

I thought so too. My sister "volunteered" for many of my scientific experiments, and only a handful times did this result in her being injured in some way. Admittedly she is still slightly cautious around large batteries.

In reply to The Lemming:

I'd hope so, if said girl was heading at me with a dangerous weapon, however experience of this one (psychotic ex-wife) would suggest that even some female trying to knife me merely results in me trying to run away or restrain her.

I would highly recommend NOT trying to grab the knife wrist. It really takes two hands to hold a wrist in such a way that any amount of writhing around does not break the grip, and at this point the lady in question has another hand, nails, and your eyes are within reach....
 Conf#2 15 May 2008
In reply to The Lemming: I'm very un-violent but if I had to then I'd have no problem. Also, if i got would up enough and was in the wrong mood then they may hear about it. - not happened yet I may add.

In reply to The Lemming:

A better question, IMHO, would be how many women of average dimensions and demeanour do you think you could fight off/defeat if you were attacked by them simultaneously?

They are empty handed but you are in a restricted area like, say, a sports hall. You have no weapon but your limbs and your wits.

(This is a similarly good drunken discussion if you replace 'women' with 'eight year olds' - no offense ladies)

This is serious. Not one of those gangbang videos.

In reply to The Lemming:
By 'girl' are you actually referring to a female below the age of 16, in which case maybe you should be considering the question would you hit a child?
Or are you referring to a female over the age of 16, more commonly known as WOMEN.

While using a rapier wit would be seen as assault, if you left rakish charm on the floor for someone to step on, they could injure themselves thus leaving you free from prosecution.

Not since some childhood fights with my sisters - they started it, anyway

Whether I'd run or defend myself would depend on the circumstances and who else was around.

Not as the norm but if i had too it would be with minimum force and in self defence. Saying that i can run pretty quick if needed

If I or my family were in danger I would hit the offender regardless of their sex. I can't see how someone having different genitalia to me should make any difference, especially if a bat or knife is being waved in my face.
