Does anyone know who played the guitar piece in the Johnny Dawes classic film 'Stone Monkey' when he was climbing The Quarryman - not the Zappa version, the 'minor Blues-rock guitar improvisation' one.

Not sure on the exact song but stone monkey uses mixes of songs from the game outrun(!)

I wouldn't know where to look for the mixes but hopefully this leads you somewhere useful.

The only music over that part of the film is the track 'Yo Mama' from Zappa's Sheik Yerbouti album.

and fades out at 18:25 before kicking back in at about 21:50.  At about 22:26 the singing starts but again, it's the same track.

At about 1:40 is where it starts to be used in the film, the bit before that (not in the film) has some singing before the guitar solo and ends with some singing, from 10:36 onwards which is used.

BTW the lead guitar is all Zappa.

My dodgy memory means that I might have got all of this wrong but...

I think that the very first release of Stone Monkey had the 'classic' soundtrack (Zappa, Talking Heads, Lloyd Cole etc.) but the songs hadn't actually been licensed so the film was pulled and re-released with a different soundtrack (on VCR).  However, when Stone Monkey was released on DVD (2006?) it was with the original soundtrack - this is the one that I've got in front of me now, with Zappa / Quarryman.

The soundtrack on that version is 'Higher' by Creed.

For me The Quarryman video is one of the best ever pieces of climbing footage - the technique is so radical and that soundtrack with the silent section is brilliant.
