Guys,

Am flying to Reus near Barcelona at easter, and have been told that you have to get a fairly expensive taxi to the campsite - is there any other way of doing it? I'm on my own, you see, and it'd cost a fair whack to get the taxi both ways.

Any ideas would be massively appreciated.

Cheers, Jim

In reply to JimLondon: you could consider hiring a car via carjet.com they do cheap hire from reus. we use all the time. if you pay in advance online, there is a discount, theres also a better discount if you book well in advance.

In reply to JimLondon:
You can catch a lift with the post man.
If you ask at the info centre at the train station they will tell you.
I caught it i think it goes from outside the restaurant on the right hand side as you come out of the train station.
It only goes as far as the nearest main town (can't remember the name) and then its about an hours walk up to Siurana or you could take your luck and thumb it.
You can get a taxi from the above mentioned town and should take about 20 mins.

Sorry if all this is a bit vague but it all i can remember.

There is a Bus which goes Tarragona to Cornudella de Montsant (the village near Siurana see previous post). I think there is only one a day (about 4/5pm) so might be a long shot. I'm not sure if it stops in Reus but I'd expect it would.

In reply to JLS:

Awesome - is hitchhiking common out there? Could I hitch the whole way?
In reply to JimLondon: you can get a bus from reus to cornudela, but as already stated it is not that frequent. You can hitch from there or walk up hill for 45mins or an hour and a half depending on the route you use/find. This can be hitched also.

Cheers

we got a taxi but then there was three of us so did't work out to be too bad. toni arbones' lovely parents v v v kindly gave us a lift back to reus whilst on their way to barcelona. it was particularly good of them as we spoke absolutely no spanish, let alone catalan. too embarrassing to do that again. note to self: get phrasebook for summer!

the postman option looks like a good one if you think you'd be able to communicate ok. goood luck.

siurana's a fantastic place, especially the slightly more out of the way crags.

enjoy,

In reply to JimLondon:

If you get transport into Cornudella and are then going to walk up the road to Siurana don't follow the road all the way up we did(with Danny above) and it takes fookin ages.

Find out where the short cuts are and you can knock it down to an hour instead of the 2.5 it took us in the midday heat of July.

In reply to AndyH1710: it's a catch 22 situation. You can either walk up the road and hope for a lift, or take the shortcut up the walking track. Depends on how lucky you feel.

we just got the joy of being beeped at! the soles of my shoes actually melted on the tarmac that day! might be much more likely to get a lift on your own though.

Reus airport on the dodgy outskirts of Reus.

I wouldn't fancy hitching in that part of Spain, especailly with loads of kit.

In reply to JimLondon: Hire a car then you can take in some of the other excellent cragging particularly if the weather is dodgy up at Siurana

In reply to JimLondon:
email the siurana camping site, they'll pick you up from the airport.

In reply to phatlad: Does anyone know if the guidebook which can be purchased from the campsite for 20Euros covers just siurana or the wider area? I never picked one up last time i was there and just relied on the rockfax.

Cheers

In reply to tbertenshaw:

Guidebook covers Siurana only, it has 600+ routes compared to 200 or so in the rockfax and includes a number of major new areas. Definitely worth getting unless its just a short trip.

yeah there are separate guides to Montsant and Arboli which are close by, the climbing shop in Cornudella has guides for those areas.
