Hi

Have an 8 & 5.5 year old that have got into climbing. We are off to Ashington for a break. What are peoples recomendations for good crags with top roping areas for kids. My son (8) climbs at Diff at the moment while his sister (5.5) likes the slab routes.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You are off to Ashington for a break ?!!!

Don’t worry about crags just worry about getting out alive.

But if you do then Corby at Alnwick or Bowden further up the A1 will do you grand

Bowden definitely a good shout. There’s loads there to be getting on with. Easiest walk in ever!

Head to the far (northern) end and you will find loads of easy slabby stuff not in the book.

I'm from Blyth but my son was born 2 months early in Ashington general (which has since been bulldozed apparently).

My one abiding memory of Ashington is getting picked up by a police van with my mates and being paid 50 pence each to appear in a lineup.

I mostly grew in nearby Killingworth myself.

Bowden. Walk passed all the main trad stuff and there's loads of little stuff for little ones to play on.
