Just looking at the western grit guide book and just noticed the NL grade for some routes in Helsby and Frodsham, just wandering what they mean?

In reply to IOAN D: Not Led, just a guess?

In reply to IOAN D: I think it refers to Not for leading/Not Led where the rock is too soft to accept gear.

In reply to IOAN D: Wow, Horse will be furious, sanctioned top roping north of Watford Gap.

In reply to IOAN D: This appeared in the old Sandstone guides and meant 'Not Led' and was usually top-roped. As the climb was often very hard & unprotected, we preferred the term 'Not lightly'!
