Well the kids are off for two weeks which sparked off a little bit of reminiscence.

Compared to the usual TV fare on offer now I think the late 60's and early 70's had some fantastic holiday programming.

And do you remember The Aeronauts? Robinson Crusoe? White Horses?

Bring 'em back.

<nostalgic tears begin to flow>

Then no-one can do more

Are well worth fighting for!

Somebody find me that MP3 now.

Yep, all those remembered fondly. The really poor over dubbing of the flashing blade was even obvious to a 6 year old, the dramatic music to Robinson Crusoe, class entertainment.
Anyone remember Tibo(sp?) and the Desert Crusaders, maybe a bit earlier than the others mentioned?
Deejay 04 Apr 2007
In reply to Removed User:

Desert Crusaders? Was that the one with clumsy fight sequences?

lol

I was about 4. I can't exactly remember the choreography of the fights, but was well upset I had to miss it one morning in order to go to a place called "school"

Brilliant!
I even liked the Aeronauts, before I realised they were French

not shown for kids, but I loved

"The ancient sages said 'Do not despise the snake for having no horns, for who is to say it will not become a dragon?' So may one just man become an army. Nearly a thousand years ago in ancient China, at the time of the Sung dynasty, there was a cruel and corrupt government. These men riding are outlaws, heroes who have been driven to live in the water margins of Liang Shan Po, far to the south of the capital city. Each fights tyranny with a price on his head, in a world very different from our own. The story starts in legend "

Fantastic! Spectacular scenery, sumptuous costumes, outrageous fightscenes and Japanese actors playing Chinese heroes and all atrociously dubbed.

Still one of my favourites.

Not forgetting "Barrier Reef" & "The Whirly-birds" either - You always new exactly who the good & bad guys were. They always seemed to be on just before a cricket Test (which Grandad just had to watch), where Greig, Knotty, Snowy & the lads would actually beat the Aussies for a change.

It beats me how we ever had time to fall out of trees /off push-bikes etc. Happy Days!

We used to go and watch Flash Gordon at the Saturday matinée. Still quite a big tradition in Liverpool on the late 60s. Do they still show Saturday matinées for kids? Used to be dead exciting.

Local Showcase has started a Saturday morning thing for kids. £1 to see a film, apparently the films are old or B-movie equivalents.

Or the

'On white horses, snowy white horses..'

1st one Ridge, that's familiar.
In reply to Deejay: bloody hell, the theme tune still pops into my head now and again for no particular reason 30 odd years later, and it was rubbish as well, I love the fastshow version of the 'singing ringing tree', I'm sure the joke was lost on many, do you think bringing back anything as creepy as some of the old kids shows would be a good idea?

Robinson Crusoe and White Horses !!!

Wow these take me back - surely someone must have sampled Robinson crusoe for a rave/ambient tune.

Also remember the theme to Swallows and Amazons and to the film The Vikings starring Kirk Douglass and Tony Curtis - all stirring stuff when you are a kid - and still now to be honest.

BTW Brian sorry havent been in touch - spending a lot of time in wales at the mo. Say hello to Jude and if you tweo fancy a trip to sunny capel - give me a ring.

Cheers

The second one was the one I linked to in my last posting. 'White horses'.

I used to fancy the girl in 'White horses', when I was a developing adolescent.

Oh, that's sad. Helga Anders. I never even knew her name 'til now.

Well Helga, wherever you are, you and 'White Horses' illuminated my boyhood school holidays. I wouldn't be quite the person I am now if not for you.
