From how things have been this season, do you think this is one of best Welsh winters of the last 5 years? 10 years? Discuss...

Mike,
The ice was fatter & better in 2005, especially in Cwm Idwal, but we haven't had much neve for a while. The earlier conditions (in January) were good but still a bit bizarrely dry. Can't comment on December, I was ill! In any case isn't it great to get out more than a couple of times in the year.

Looking at a route done today, probably the best since before you were born.

Some good lines will be in condition for the fit and brave.

Wonder what Cloggy has in store on Far west buttress?

95-96 was a cracker

96-97 very good - agreed.

98-99 started early, so a long season - snowdon gullies where in in Nov, and Feb was ok

What makes a good welsh season - quality - ie depth of snow, thickness of ice, or length of season ?

For water ice routes - i think 96 was the year. when were Central icefall / Cascade last done/in ?

For snowed up rock - alot done in last 2-3 years ?

For 'neve' gullies - this is shaping up to be the best for a good while.

Fair enough. Hadn't experienced Welsh winter until this season so good to get a perspective in relation to previous years conditions.
