basically really want to know the general snow conditions of routes at Nevis, Glen Coe and Cairngorms etc from the horses mouth! Anyone been recently have any advice or thoughts on where might be good in the next 2 weeks? I know the gorms have been a bit thin so far this year and I havent made it out to Nevis. Mates are coming up for a weekend, any advice would be awesome!

In reply to cmars89: It has been very lean but check the regular blogs-
Ben Nevis/Glencoe all updated recently and lots being done:

and I was there the day before yesterday http://alanhalewood.blogspot.com/
Cairngorms (very little old snow on routes, lots fell yesterday but on a strong wind and another big thaw may remove most of it):

and I'll be out there today http://alanhalewood.blogspot.com/

Many things are lean and 2 weeks is a long time in winter climbing. A limited thaw followed by freeze (or several cycles) will help things fatten up. If we get another prolonged thaw it will further strip things out.
Here's hoping it makes for a good March!

In reply to cmars89: If it was my choice i'd forget the Cairngorms at the moment and head for the ben

It's looking mild on MWIS - any updates on Glen Coe (SCnL)?

In reply to scottie390: We got lucky today with a great day out on Invernookie but the conditions were on the way out by the time we were walking out of the Coire. http://alanhalewood.blogspot.com/2012/03/proper-winter-climbing-at-last.htm...

In reply to J Brown: I was on Buachaille Etive Mor today, and the freezing level certainly overtook us up the mountain, and with the heavy rain, the snow was disappearing rather quickly. I spoke to a couple of folk this morning, who were off to climb Curved Ridge, who reported pretty poor conditions in SCnL yesterday.

Ben Nevis will still be holding out.

Was up for a week just home again. Lochnagar was brilliant but nobody was there, An Teallach pretty good and the Northern Corries terrible. Not sure why but Lochnagar had a lot more snow and ice left than the northern corries... shame about the long approach!

lochnagar faces ne with a plateau behind it so will have collected snow on the westerly winds northern corries face nnw so get scoured, apparently braeriach was /is holding more snow for the same reason.

We were in Sneachta on friday and there was bugger all snow. Some patches on the side of fiacaille ridge and a bit in a couple of gullies. Nothing at all on Goat Track and it was warm and raining so chances of much being left cannot be high.
Did seem to be a bit more snow in Lochain but how much of that is remaining I don't know.

In reply to cmars89: some snow but not what you'd expect for this time of year!...

a very poor ski season this year. The only place with any sort of a base left is the white corries.
